whip the top pulley off and see if the keyway has sheared as its part of the pulley .they are around £50 from renault and ive done three f9q i think
the code is as its in a few different vans and cars and not had any other damage . the valves are vertical and pretty thick so the ally pulley gets
the beating

2004 and 140k miles, it was changed 50k ago, which was maybe 2 years ago.
Will whip the cover off and see, im fairly sure something is buggered as it wont turn over - i know, silly to try but i concluded that if the belt had
broken it was lunched anyway, so nothing to lose! I then found the belt hanging out the bottom of the engine, so its defiantely gone.

Is piston damage likely too, anyone know?
Cheers!

It might be worth trying to turn the engine using a spanner/socket on the pulley bolt . If there is no movement then it could be terminal? If you can
turn the crank but it locks as the pistons get near to TDC you may salvage it . As said check the cam pulley key although I think it is a good idea
to replace the pulley if there is any doubt as it's cheaper than yet another head. The crank sprocket may not??? be keyed to the crank, just
held by the crank pulley bolt as are a lot of modern engines . You will probably need a timing tool kit for your engine that locks the crank and the
cam.

once you get the cover off you will need t loosen the bolts that hold the engine mount that also holds the high pressure pump in position to allow the
pulley to come out and a little puller will help avoid mangling the tin plate behind the pulley . the pulley will be stuck fast as its been spun
around the cam as the valves have smacked the pistons , a blow lamp will help ease it off as well

Iirc if the piston hits a valve at high speed then yeah the piston is cream crackered too.
I had this happen on an old mondeo, there was no thought of fixing it with 225k on it though!
