Omex/CKC Trackday @ Llandow

Had an interesting day at Llandow yesterday. I did the first session in the morning before my gremlins reappeared.

Note the first 2 laps are under yellow flags so it is 2mins in when we are allowed to get on with it.

Car was going pretty quickly on old 048Rs but I had to call it a day with a few niggling issues. Interesting mix of cars with quite a few having issues. Lovely weather though I met a number of people of this forum in person so it was nice to say hello and I had some nice comments from people who had watched the car on track during its brief appearance.

Looks and sounds great!

I see they left the cones out! Very helpful if you've not been there much!

There is a quicker line through the chicane at the end of the straight - if you approach it more on the RHS of the track, and you're very brave, the chicane just needs a drop down of one gear and you can almost straight line it by using the kerbs - too much kerb will damage a wheel (don't ask how I know!)

Bloody nice car !

Here's a video from the British Sprint Championship Top 12 run off - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=58OQNmBju_k />

Henryk was always very quick at Llandow (and every where else come to think of it!)

Yeap, I know about the chicane line but it was the first session so was more a systems check than really on it. Still 47.16 sec lap isn't bad.

Understood. The car was on very old knackered 048r but with the sprint ZZRs on I'd have been 3 secs ish fast , at least for 2 laps

So, what were the niggles that stopped the day?

Breather problems mainly....losing too much oil into the catch tank under boost.

Hopefully. We are going to do a leak down test to see if it is the rings or not.

The car is still under development so the head is coming off to be skimmed to up the compression ratio and then the supercharger pulley is being reduced. There is also a charge cooler being developed for the kit on the Raw car which should reduce my pressure drop from 6psi across the intercooler to 2psi. All this should mean the car goes from 9 psi at the plenum at the redline to something closer to 15psi. There is a prorata increase of around 12BHP per psi of boost at the plenum with this kit so we should go from 285 to 360 or so.

Slightly better version of the video with the throttle position showing

Another good vid Jeff, shame you cant get any better sound quality.

You need to hide that mic somewhere out of the wind!

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

There is actually a software issue with the Mini DVR that causes the mic issue. The Mic is actually behind the seat down low so there should be no wind noise. I need to experiment with better positions for it.

I've just checked the unit again and it appears to have reset itself and set both internal and external mics to on and the volume to 4 on both. So that will be the cause of the extra noises. Internal mic is now off and the external is set to 1.

I take it the internals are not entirely stock if it's pushing that kind of boost and you are looking to increase the boost...

No, forged rods and pistons. It is only running 1bar at the supercharger and 9psi at the Plenum so not huge boost really.
