Audi Roof Help!
I need some Locost brains input into this as the Audi forums are being rubbish.
I've got a 1999 Audi TT Roadster and it was sitting off-road for about 3 months. During this slumber, the roof decided to not work. I've
done a lot of fault-finding and have come to the conclusion that it's the motor:
All the sensors recognise roof unlatching, roof in up position and roof in down position. There's about 6 sensors in total and all function.
The switch functions in both directions.
The relays both function (one for up, one for down) and both click.
The hydraulic pump is basically an electric motor on the side of a chunky aluminium block which has hydrualic pipes coming out of it. On top of this
is a metal cylinder which looks like a solenoid.
Holding the switch down causes this "solenoid" to warm/heat up after a while.
This leads me to believe that the motor is stuck, as it looks like it's getting power to it correctly.
So the question is.. any clever ideas how to "unstick" it? I've tried tapping/hitting it with a bar/hammer/mallet whilst operating
it, but given its location (underneath the roof tray), it's difficult to swing something without smashing open the rear glass window or one of
the hydraulic pipes. Operating the switch whilst manually opening/closing the roof or "jiggling" it also doesn't free the motor.

is there a resavior ?
has it fluid in ?
has it the correct fluid in ?

Youve gone through most of the tests already from what you say.
The motor is getting power?? Yes I presume. How have you metered it ? By taking off the plug?? if so do it with the plug on to make sure you still
have 12v while the motor is under load conditions ( if there is a bad connection downstream then the volts will drop to 0 or thereabouts.)
Also check that the motor is getting a good earth (just because youve got a live doesn't mean all is well. You need the complete circuit for it
to work)

but if the pump is seized due to water / no oil / wrong oil
can you seperate pump / motor

Might be worth a look HERE There's no TT roof pump fault listed but
several other VAG ones.
