Fresh tintop ideas
As of next week end I may have a budget of £2.5k to buy a replacement tintop that tickles my fancy I dont do many miles in it as its more of second
car, so.
It needs four seats and a roof.
mpg isnt important 20mpg is fine as long as I get more in smiles per mile.
Insurance isnt important (aslong as it isnt stupid ie group 50)
I do my own spanner work but parts need to be sensable.
Its got to make me grin when I get to drive it.
I am thinking, and all can be had for sub 3k with a little shopping around.
Jag xk8
plus...Stunning looks and a v8....Neg there all auto's
Subaru impreza wrx
Not exactly rare. But 215bhp and up
Mazda rx8
Engine is a ticking time bomb and I cant be doing with flooding problems if i just nip to work in it and I like torque.
nissan Skyline
Group 50 insurance and finding one thats not been ragged to death.
Other thoughts are stuff it in the bank and hope I can keep the wife away from it long enough to sell (iva/sell) the locost to give me a much
healthier budget of 5~6k for somthing really tasty.
One thing I do know is I only want to spend what cash I can scrape together and no sort of credit.
Any experiance on the above cars or gems that I havnt thought about ? I like Rally / GT / Touring style cars

2.5 grand would find a really nice Beamer or Saab Turbo
In my area I automatically assume all Impreza drivers are drug dealers or young farmers (not sure which is worse) Plod probably takes a
similar view.
You have to think how difficult it will be to sell a couple years down the line nobody wants oldish Jags so if you are tempted by a
seductive gorgeous sexy Jag be prepared to keep it for a longer term.

ive had 2 x imprezas.
1 a v reg prodrive
1 a 2002 wrx sti
both never caused me a single problem during about 3 years of ownership! other than servicing, fuel and insurance i found them easy to live with. the
prodrive one was very very quick once on boost!

Out of those I'd choose the Jag - but I guess I'm getting old

Lancer evo? No idea what they're like in your price range.
How about something like a Focus/Mondeo ST?
Also I'm sure you could get a Golf gti or a nice Audi

My "sensible" car is an Evo 4, cost me £2750 earlier in the year. So far has been totally reliable and has 294bhp!

I ran an XK8 for 3 years, lovely car but watch the rust
Both rear arches needed doing and inner sill started to go, everything else was good about it.
Also put on an LPG conversion, very economical on the pocket and completely hidden.
