Windscreen surface breaking up

A bit of an odd one, a colleague has a Focus and is complaining of poor visibility at night and in the rain. On close inspection it looks like the top layer of the windscreen is breaking up, kinda like paint cracking. Just wondering if anyone know what's going on or how to solve it?

Cheers
Chris

Sounds like it's delaminating if that's the case it will need a new screen, Hope it's covered on insurance if it's heated

It doesn't look like water ingress, more like the UV coating coming off. Not something I've ever heard of before. He's going to try glass polish but if that doesn't work it'll need replacing. I did wonder if it had been coated in rainx or similar, by a previous owner, and that was what was deteriorating...

Turns out it was a case of the wipers degrading and leaving a film of hard to remove muck across the screen. I know this makes it sound like all that was needed was a bit of a wipe!

A lot of screen wash additives eat wiper rubbers.
Best trick getting greasy residue off of a screen is rubbing it over with a damp cloth lightly sprinkled with domestic washing powder.

Apparently toothpaste is very good for removing stubborn films from windscreens - probably the abrasive stuff is better than the gel pastes!

David,

Does the "whitening toothpaste work well"?
