Shipping wheels to Corfu?
Hi Night owls!
having spent an hour getting all sorts of quotes I am struggling to find an economical way of sending 5 wheels across to Corfu- no one will take all
5 together but sending 5 parcels costs a fortune too, I have concluded that a parcel of 3 and a parcel of 2 is the best way but wondered if anyone
from the Locostbuilders resource bank has used any particular couriers with success or has any tips to help.
One thing I have spotted is most firms charge by volume quoted on a cubic basis whereas my parcels will be cylinders which will be proportionately
smaller than a box they would fit in, I can see that this may well be a standard convention but I'd like toshring k the volum eif Ican 
I'm certainly no shipping agent so would welcome any useful pointers!!

I did
there is a company called eco parchel
Failure to do that, i know people who can collect and ship to Greece Thessaloniki or athens and then someone else needs to pick it up and send it to
him.
How much have you been quoted so far?
bare in mind i do not visit the site so often any more

Thanks for getting back, the wheels are worth about £150; quotes are at anything from £150 to £900 depending on the permutations of parcels, some
quotes by weight which look reasonable suddenly quadruple when you hit the "buy this service" button -seems to be a secret code for
"rip me off"
I'll have a good look at the site you mention tonight as off on a family Christmas visiting jaunt now.

Have a look.
When i shipped mine, the boxes were 60X60X50 with 2 wheels and tires each and had quoted me 19 euros each box.
You will need to play around with the box sizes and weight.
Failing to do that, i can send you the details from a company only dealing with parcels to Greece. They are a bit pricey but not that much.
I payed about £30-40 for a similar sized box.

That's encouraging- I don't really want to send his cash back and keep tripping over the wheels
Eco parcel say they dont deliver to islands and won't quote, max parcel weight is 50kg which would mean 2 x 36 kg parcels and 1 x 18 kg parcel,
real weight. I tried for a pallet quote listing the lot but no joy and "no service"
Time for plan b I think!

Plan B involved talking to Parcel2go re the misleading quotes their online system generates, they have asked for the parcel details so they can look
into it but after a full 30 hours they haven't got back; which for a firm that is always hunting for business is not a hopeful sign. I'll
try an e mail to see if they have come up with anything but I can't see it working any differently for them as it does for me.
Plan C would be to ship in 2 stages as you mentioned earlier- what would you suggest as the best route?
What are the logistics of one carrier passing parcels on to another?
My boxes will be multiples of each wheel 66cm x 66cm x 20cm weighing 18 kg, 5 in total- combined weight is 90 kg
Plan D will involve sending the guy his money back, I'd be obliged to pay at least one set of his currency exchange fees.

I often ship wheels outside of the UK and nearly always use Collect my parcels.com List the contents as used wheels and have had no problem. A lot
cheaper than going direct to parcel force even though most of mine are shipped via PF..
You just need the approx weight and sizes for an instant online quote.
You will find that weight does not really come in to it. They all work on voluemetric weight..

Collect my parcel.com coming in at £105- £130 depending on the permutation of the parcels, still a bit steep but I guess that is what the cost is, not
sure if the buyer will want to pay that.
Ironically one quote I looked up said the actual weight was greater than volumetric weight therefore a quick change of the rules and actual weight
became basis for the quote!!!
I'm just pulling out the remnants of my hair!!
