It's quite believeable.... Sometimes the petty smallmindedness of beaurocrats works against them.

To be fair, the law (particularly traffic law) will quite happily bite each and every one of us in the ass if WE were to make even the slightest of
indiscretions (no matter how insignificant we think that particular law is).
It has to be a two way street and they have to do it right!

The law is a two edge sword...those enforcing have to be able to abide by it too.

So how about individual charges of fraud being brought against all those involved in this illegal operation? The staff of the courts, the police, the
sign makers, the enforcement agencies, etc.

I've seen this before in relation to parking bays. In particular there was one that had been badly signed, but had netted the council thousands
of pounds before someone decided to query it.
Personally I'm glad they have their fair share of red tape, considering how hard and convoluted things are for us it's only right that the
same applies to them.
Edit: Sorry, had to highlight one of the comments, it really cracked me up;

Yes, I go increasingly faster one way down my road but gradually slow down when travelling in the opposite direction.

There will be no compensation... and nor should there be.
Of course their points should be removed and any fines returned because of this incorrect font, but the matter of fact is that the sign was
still perfectly readable and those caught out in the area where it was displayed were still speeding.

Well (just for argument sake) what's the good in returning £60 and 3 points when you've lost a lot more than that (insurance goes up for 4
years at least) because of something they "didn't" catch you doing?

If and it's a big if they get their speeding convictions quashed , points removed and fine paid back then I don't think it's
unreasonable to apply for compensation and I'm guessing there'll be plenty of where there's blame there's a claim people ready
