Any ideas?
Appealing to the font of all knowledge...yes you lot
Anyone know were I can get my hands on some 1" x 3"
box section mild steel about 2 x 12' lengths approx 2 mm
I've try'd places like metals4u, flebay, local scrappy bloke,
all to no avail.
Any ideas people???

I'm afraid it's a bit of a non standard size that. In steel stockholding circles its known as rectangular(rolled) hollow section (RHS) You
could make it up out of, say 50x25 plus a 25x25 or use channels or angles but it will mean welding and expense, I would use what's standard and
adapt the job accordingly.
Here's a list of RHS from my local stockholders:

and square sections:

That's not to say someone may not have some ...it'll just be harder to find and more costly.

I would be very suprised if you could find that off the the shelf.
Another way to make it would be to press up a channel and close it with a flat plate welded on. Or 2 "L" sections
