Is this too close to exhaust?

Just having a bit of a tidy up and decided rather than leaving the coil zip tied to the top of the engine I would make it a nice little bracket...

However... Do we think it is too close to the exhaust manifold?

Heat shield is 1.5mm stainless steel and is approx 45mm from the manifold.

you could always put some heat wrap on the exhaust, then it should be ok

I did a similar thing for my alternator as it was getting cooked by the exhaust. I made a steel plate that fits between the alternator and the exhaust manifold and covered the sheet in exhaust wrap. Works a treat

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

I,d say the heat pouring off that cat will cook your coil, where was it placed originally?

I think you might be right..

I believe the original coil would have been bolted to the plenum on top of the engine..... For some reason this one was just zip tied to some hoses on top of the block..

Nice idea sticking it there but I think I need to move it away from the exhaust onto the top of the engine again

I'd go along with wrapping exhaust too. Move the coil regardless, way too close and that heat shield is next to useless.

Maybe a bonnet/wheel arch vent of two

No room at the rear of the engine beside the distributor were GM originally put it in the Buicks.

In the first picture looks like a split in your manifold
just below the coil ?.
Move the coil would be my suggestion.
Good luck.

Yes, in the process of moving it onto the top of the block where tvr put it in the first place.

Haha, it does look like a split doesn't it!! It is actually a piece of loom tape, must scrape it off before I try and start her up.

Hmm... Perhaps...although the mallory contacless ignition system seems to work ok at the moment (touch wood)..

What are you planning on using to control the EDIS/Injection?

I'm using a Megasquirt to replace the Rover ECU, if your using a carb then all you need is a Megajolt and a trigger wheel... get all the bits from either of these..
