12v power inverter
see things like this
New 500W 12V DC to 220V AC Car Power Inverter USB Port With Fuses | eBay
my shop
are they any good for charging/using a laptop in the car?
i want to drive round the islands, camping in the car (estate car) park up somewhere awesome, and make some dance tunes on the laptop. are these
things any good?
it says if using over over 200w, don't use the cigarette lighter, which is fine, however, the power supply has an input power of 220v 1.5a
(330w?) and an output of 20v 2.5a (90w)
i'm unsure about these points though
"It can be widely used in all kinds of electrical apparatus, which voltage rating are AC 220V and frequency are equal to 50Hz, such as mobile
telephone, portable computer, electric light, digital camera, vidicon, TV, electric tool, CD player, DVD, fanner and so on
DO NOT plug small appliances into the inverter AC receptacles to directly recharge their nickel-cadmium batteries.
DO NOT plug in battery chargers for cordless power tools if the charger carries a warning that dangerous voltages are present at the battery
terminals.
Certain rechargers for small nickel-cadmium batteries, such as flashlights, cordless razors, some cordless hand-tools and toothbrushes, can be damaged
if plugged into an inverter."
laptop battery should be lithium ion, so should be ok?

I use one to run a laptop (with its normal power lead supply unit) no problem

I use a small 75W to run my laptop,...
works ok,.. but they are not efficient really.
If you're pulling 240W that is 20amps and you'll need the engine running to avoid a flat battery,....

Lovely thank you lads
Hmm, did I get my maths wrong? P=I×v?
Well, best to have too much capacity than not enough, if it'll work off the power socket in the boot then great! Would only really be for
charging the laptop between use anyway. I suppose a tiny travel kettle might work too?
Engine running isn't really a problem, not ideal, but can be done ok
So, which wattage is important? Input or output?

you would be better to have a car laptop charger, not converting 12V -> 240 -> 20, but just 12 -> 20
for instance (just an example )
