Type 9 Clutch adjustment

Hi All.

I have never been sure about this one. I have just fitted a new AP race clutch and fly wheel to my Pinto engine. When I adjust the clutch cable , should I take all of the slack out of the adjustment. Which I assume will mean that the thrust bearing is running all the time, or leave a bit of slack so that the clutch fork can move a round. I would have to save it feels horrible with the slack.

You can take the slack up so it just gently rests on the clutch
With auto adjusting clutch mechanisms this is what happens anyway
But I must emphasis gentle, to much and clutch will slip

I eat to survive
I drink to forget
I breath to pi55 my ex wife off (and now my ex partner)

If you look at the old sierra clutch pedal quadrant you find a surprisingly strong spring tensioning the cable and holding the release bearing against the diaphragm fingers. Seemingly stronger than needed to just lift the pedal and suggesting it's designed for the bearing to run constantly in slightly tensioned contact. It also has the effect of removing any chatter from the release arm joints. Very difficult to replicate with just an threaded adjuster. I added a sliding sprung section to my floor mount pedal box to copy this effect and give a choice of clutch take up point.
