My Locost is to go
We are moving house at the end of February, and have already started the big clear out (see 'Major clearout' thread). All this thinning
down of stuff has made me start thinking seriously about the Locost, and a lot of soul searching, I have made the very difficult decision to sell the
her
It is not a decision I took lightly, but after weighing up the pro's and con's, the only pro's I can think of are "It's
fun to drive and meet-up in" and "I want to keep it". All the Con's tell me it is right to sell her. I achieved my goal of
building a car from scratch and getting it on the road, and have had about 16 months of fun driving it. But I have not used it as much as I would have
liked for various reasons, and apart from this, it is just another expense I really cannot afford. We have almost got my wife's MG Midget on the
road, and this has taken up a lot of my time, the Discovery now runs but needs a fair bit of welding for the MOT, and the money I could make from the
Locost is badly needed at the moment with the move and all.
What I would like from you guys is a rough idea what I should be asking. I could just trawl eBay for sold Locosts, but I think the collective is a
much more advised source of information. Basic details are:
McSorley +442 Locost, IVA'd Jul 2102
2L Pinto with 32/36 Weber carb
5-speed type-9 gearbox
Capri live axle
There are a couple of niggles with her:
Alternator overcharges slightly, but I am going to try another one I have in the garage
The speedo has stopped working, I think it may be the drive adapter but I'm not sure. but I am throwing in an electronic adaptor for the gearbox
as well so the option is there.
The bodywork is looking 'used' in places and she could really do with some TLC, but I have used her all through last year and she always
gets nice comments when cleaned and polished
So any help on pricing would be gratefully received guys.
Thanks.
John
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Good luck with the sale, It's a good looking car being sold at the right time of year (as long as it doesn't snow in April again!)
I sold my very track focused Locost last year for £4250, So about the 4k mark would be a good starting point.
I was suppose to add my sale money to a house move, from my avtar, you can see I started building another one nearly straight away!
Regards Dan.
