Likelihood of bore damage

So my tin top has been breathing heavily for a while, not massively but a little. No noticeable compression loss.

Well the trip to lunch at the weekend was a bit much for it and I started sounding like a subaru driver. Drove 4 miles home and ran a compression test - 190,200,200,100.

Bah. Borescope down the spark plug hole - nothing obvious, no *obvious* marks on bore. Bit gutted, going to require some significant work and it's really more than the car is financially worth (plus I have no spare time!) but I am a bit too emotionally attached to this car (had it for 10+ years!). Just blown 750 quid on coil overs and a couple of hundred on a coil on plug conversion, it seems to be an endless money pit at it's age of 24!

What's worse is the engine turned itself with the valve spring force while I wasn't looking, bending and jamming the borescope in the bore. Bad week.

Not sure where I was going with this, just venting a little.

Ebay seems to be littered with inexpensive engines from all sorts of cars. Generally they're a bit of a risk, but at least there's a fair chance of all four cylinders working.

Had this on 3 GT4 Celicas.
2 of the occasions the cracked piston hadn't dug into the bore and a light hone sorted it out.
The other time was carnage and I went for 10 thou bigger pistons.
