Drive Smart black box insurance.
http://drivesmartinsurance.co.uk/
My son passed this year and I could not afford/justify the cost of insurance and he could not cover the car expenses on his Saturday job so he shares
my wifes vw polo. (yes he is a second driver as my wife uses it for work and he uses the train to get to college)
Only an extra £150 when learning and then under £1000 after he passed. Renewal up next month so be interesting to see what it comes in at. Cheapest
other quote was over £2K.
The box is basicaly a mobile phone installed under the dash, you get rated on time of day, length of trip, familiarity, speeding, braking, cornering
and accelereation. The rating is updated daily with the running average providing additional premiums or rebate.
My logic was that if big brother (father) is watching then he has the perfect excuse to be sensible when he has mates in the car, also if I get a
rebate it goes to him as an incentive.
Working for us so far, he is a pretty good driver and is getting better ratings than my wife at the moment!

Worth trying the companies that specialise in females. My 21 year old daughter got the best deal from Diamond, £650 ish for an old Fiesta. The
equivalent male policy is at least half as much again........

It doesn't, but i know the days when only my wife or my son are driving so can work it out from there.

My 17 yr old son passed his test in September. The cheapest insurance he could get was with Tesco (black box fitted).
He had to pay circa £1400 for his 1.4 diesel Citroen C2 with limited mileage.
However, the black box means that he can accumulate extra bonus mileage at the end of every month provided he's driven within the speed limits
etc.
By having his own policy from the start means he can build up his 'no claims' bonus immediately.
It does mean that he has to hold down three part-time jobs as well as study for his A-levels to pay for it all.
Still, it is teaching him from an early age how to budget his money to pay for the things he wants in life.

Insurance companies are no longer allowed to differentiate on quoted depending on gender..
I'm with Sheilah's Wheels, On their web page it says Insurance designed with women in mind...
I enquired to which parts specifically were designed with women in mind to be told that I would have hand bag cover..
I enquired if my man bag or indeed my bum bag would be covered...
However..try Insure the Box
