MG TD Speedo / Rev Counter
Hi,
A little OT, my father in law has a TD and the speedo and Rev counter no longer work. He had the cable replaced but it still doesn't work.
I'd like to think the garage would have tried to trouble shoot but they just fit the cable and said no more...
Anyone got any experience with these?
Cheers

With both the speedo and recounter as a first step you need to uncouple the the cable at the back of the instruments to check if the cables are
actually turning.
The Rev counter is driven off the dynamano on the T type and it is not uncommon for the gears in the little gearbox on the back of the dynamo to
strip, on my TF 1250 I had to replace this part twice.

Thread resurrection!
Turns out the Dynamo was from a totally different car and not attached correctly. He's fitted a new unit but apparently the Rev counter cable
nut unwinds as the engine ticks over. I've not looked myself yet but was wondering if anyone has any ideas?

These old XPAG engines tend to vibrate a lot, a non-permanent thread lock such as Loctite 248 or Loctite 243 should be enough to stop it unwinding.
