safty issue face mask

hi all posted this on my car post but I thought it was serious enough to post separately as a warning to others

had some real fun with my face mask
brought a face mask with cartridges from a well known
supplier . I asked for dust protection and organic fumes.
well when using it for resin and fibreglass and paint I can still smell the stuff although not as bad as without the mask , the other night after feeling a bit tom and dick after a resin session i sat down and read the code on the side off the supplied filters , cross referenced them on the interweb and it states " dust only" no wonder I've been feeling ill after use.
went out yesterday and bought a proper dust and fumes mask - the difference is - did the moulding today with the new mask and what do you know no smell no feeling ill !

motto of the story don't believe anyone check yourself !!!!!!!!

ps: when I raised the issue with the supplier he just shrugged his shoulders

You really need to be fit tested to wear any type of tight fitting RPE to ensur that you will get the desired level of protection.
As not all people will have a seal with the same mask.

Also you need to be clean shaven at all times when using a respirator that is 'tight fitting' ie contact with skin to crest seal and negative pressure

my original mask was a forces mask still good for dust just had the wrong cartridges for resin fumes ect. they do the correct ones
they were not in stock so they sent me the wrong ones !

I now have a 3m 4255 limited life due to non replaceable cartridges. I am going to keep that for resin and paint fumes and use the original for dust .

one last observation , i'm suppressed how much water we humans expel in our breath , after 1.5 hours use there is 1/4 " of water sloshing round the bottom of the mask , at least I think that what it is could be dribble I suppose

That looks similar to the Nuclear chemical biological suit I bought with the blown air vent system and filters when I became allergic to epoxy resin whilst building my yacht - for me it helped a bit but didn't stop the nasties getting through, I guess it will for you though following your earlier remark about no smell.
