MOT pass with an MIL light
Hi
Will my car (regular saab) pass it's MOT despite it having an engine management light on?

I hope it's a pass, as my wife's 308 is getting MOT'ed in the morning and the engine light is on!

Yes it will pass ,as said it may have an emission problem which may not .

I just bought a car with a MIL on and a week old MOT with an advisory due to the MIL.
The fault was both O2 sensor heater circuits. O2 sensors work when they get hot so no MOT problem when warm. I replaced the sensors and reset the
MIL. All is now OK.

I know what the trouble is, there is a secondary air pump which activates for the first 10 secs or so to help reduce emissions during the initial
start up then switches off. A one way valve to it packed up allowing exhaust emissions to go through it. Water from combustion condenses in this
pump and it in turn effectively drowns. So now the car registers the pump isn't responding and pings the light. The whole system is
completely redundant to the point saab deleted it from the car the year after mine. Apparently you can get the proper saab comms gizmo to remove the
system from the engine management check, just not gotten round to getting it sorted.

A MIL light is the cars way of telling you to FIX the bloody thing.
Some P Codes being set can block other other serious P Codes being triggered.

Or not, as is my choice. Cost, effort, risk, the usual things you weigh up when something on a 13 year old car go faulty. Maybe I'm less anal
than others though who like their dashboard light free, regardless of cost.

My vectra got screen burn on the warning light LCD display.

The light is there, as said as warning, and it could affect the emissions
can u not reset the light off with the OBD port?
if not get the car VERY hot, and give it a good thrash leading up to the MOT, and it will probably be ok

It'll be fine thanks, the system that is knackered is only used from a cold start. Saab stopped putting them in the cars from 2004 onwards as
they were a crap idea to begin with. And at over £140 to fix and a pain in the arse to do I'm going with the "wait and see what I do with
the car before deciding how to deal with it"approach.
Yes, can turn it off with the odb but it comes on again after self check at next start up. Although possibly not once car is warm and hence system
not needed. ... hmm, might just work, thanks for the idea. Will try resetting it before going in for the MOT. Even though it won't fail for it.
Keeps it off the advisory.
