5.3L LS-1 V8 Mazda RX8
Hi all
My dad has recently finished his latest project, 5.3L LS-1 V8 engine swap into a Mazda RX8. He is frustrated however that it's completely
impossible to test its full capabilities on public roads, both from a legality and safety point of view!
He's not that keen on a normal track-day either as they tend to ban prolonged drifting... In his words, he wants to 'steer it with the
throttle' He's also very scared of binning it into a wall.
Does anyone know of any events which might be more suitable? Something on a large empty runway for example?
Thanks
Josh

Everyday i live hoping that i become something like your dad, to my children!!
on the drift what you bring topic, there is very little down south. Santa pod do DWYB events as do drift world in scotland.
Lydden hill cancelled all its DWYB events for 2016 to keep the neighbours happy
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Drift day at Lydden Hill, always plenty of sideways action there and they don't care how much you do

Unfortunately the drift events have been removed from Lydden now. Nice conversion, that would make an interesting track day car

Looks great, it even seems to have an LPG system installed?
You should move the battery in the trunk to offset the weight of the V8.

It's an alloy block, weighs the same as the rotary I removed. All stock wiring to the battery saves messing up the boot space. It looks tight
but it's actually more accessible than the original. Diff changed from 4.44:1 to 3.9:1 torsen LSD, 1500 rpm at 50, 4 speed auto. Engine is a L33
Vortec variant, 243/799 heads, LS 2 cam, ls6 intake, corvette exhaust manifolds (dual skin sheet metal), water pump and bottom pulley. About 375 hp. 3
wire hookup for the LS ECU, Mazda shaped trigger wheel keeps all the Mazda stuff happy, including the electric rack and fuel pump + cooling. LPG means
no cat required on a 2005 engine/car :-) Other than mounts there were very few changes needed to fit it. The least problematic car I've ever
done tbh.

Blyton park will hate you if you 'drift', he will make sure he tells you that at the briefing
But great place for a track day.
Theres a small track near me that so 'testing days', where you can rock up and go out as and when you please and set your car up.
I'm usually the only person there in a car when I go. There are a few bikes though usually so you just do 'sessions'.
