My fuel pump seems to be getting bloody noisy recently and thought before I start farting about blathering myself in fuel that I'd upload a
video to see what you guys thought.
Shouldn't that type of pump ( high pressure) be below the bottom of the tank, they like fuel to be gravity fed rather than having to suck,
perhaps it's on its way out because it's mounted too high?
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016
This is what it was like when i bought it and its run ok for the last 2 years but just seems to of got bloody loud. Problem is I wear a helmet and ear
plugs when driving so not really noticed it getting like it is now.
I have a spare facet, are these happy being mounted the same as my current one?
fuel pumps shouldn't make that much noise,
but it seemed the noise stopped as you were about to start the car, ie it got up to pressure and stopped pumping (this is good)
can you try powering up the pump without the engine running to confirm this.
after that its see why it makes so much noise on fairly light duty,
As a test i would remove it from its high position and get it as low as possible. That sounds like it struggling and sucking air in. Does it maintain
fuel pressure when driven?

very similar to my thinking,
perhaps its the first time its been run with low fuel in the tank.
these type of pumps require 'flood fill' else they just try to pump vapour
Yes the fuel pump fires up when you turn the ignition on then cuts off once it's reached pressure.
I get no hesitation when giving it the beans it's just bloody loud but then the exhaust note kicks in and I can't hear a thing then!
The fuel is fed by a built in swirl pot on the tank so I'd be surprised if it was sucking air.
I could try and lower the pump but it would be a bit of farting about with pipes etc, but I do have a round facet fuel pump that would be an easy
replacement and they don't require to be any lower, just vertical.

I'm running jenveys but I do have an in line pressure valve so not sure if they require hi flow? Obviously I'm not much of a mechanic!

Would the facet be a good replacement?
The facet one is not a hp pump so not really unless you are running carbs which i doubt as you already have a hp pump.......(the noisy one)

If your running Jenvey ITB (individual throttle bodies) then your fuel injection which requires a HP (high pressure) pump the Bosch 044 as stated in a
post above is what you want. Be careful buying from ebay though as there are loads of spurious knock offs.
