Collection of 1/43 race cars
A couple of years ago my brother passed away - firstly please don't say "Sorry for your loss" - I really hate that meaningless American
phrase & it was a while back so the initial shock has worn off.
I inherited from him a large collection of mainly 1/43 race cars from manufacturers like Burago, MiniChamps, Hot Wheels etc. largely F1 & dating
from the 60's through to probably mid 2000 teens, there's also a few sports cars like Lola T70 & the Ford 3 litre prototype amongst
others, plus a few weird things like a Trabant for instance! I've not counted them but probably getting on for 80 or so models in all
I've been struggling to know what to do with them, I don't want them (I might keep a couple significant to me as mementos) & they are
nearly all mint & currently in boxes/mini display cases, but I don't think they have any significant value, maybe somewhere between £5/10
each, but would cost a fiver to post, I really can't be bothered to take individual pics & stick them on Ebay
If I sold them as a collection I'm guessing they'd probably make about 1/10 of that value
I'd give them to local charity shops, but have a strong suspicion that they wouldn't get bought by collectors but by Grannies for their
Grandchildren & then little Johnny would take the immaculate model from it's box, go "Vroom, Vroom" & within hours it would be
missing wings & wheels - I'm pretty sure that's not what he'd have wanted to happen to his precious collection & whilst
I'm confident he's not watching over me from beyond, I don't think that would be a sensible route to take
No idea if they would be of any interest to anyone on here, any suggestions for a sensible way to dispose of them to someone that would actually
appreciate them are welcome - Are there dealers who will buy a collection?
If anyone is looking for anything specific they want a model of, let me know, I may have it & would love it to go to someone that actually wants
it
TIA for any input

My nieces boyfriend works at a place called Hidden Gem antiques, they often sell vintage toys and games. You can see what they sell and how much they
sell for here;
https://www.hiddengemauctions.co.uk/
They don't go for a lot though. They're also nowhere near you in terms of location, so perhaps a look around for a local equivalent shop
might give you options?

I think contacting grand prix models would be a good first step.
I don't know if they buy collections, but will be worth speaking with them
I believe Mark is still there, he also has a lot of kit car (mostly moss) connections. he undoubtedly knows of you / Furore cars.

Lacy Scott & Knight auctioneers in Bury St Edmunds have toy & model auctions a couple of times per year - always massively popular with
buyers. Might be worth talking to them re possible value and date of next appropriate auction.
LS&K
I've sold a few things with them (including my 5" steam loco) and they've always played straight.

At out local car museum in Alford, the cafe it has on the wall a large collection of diecast cars & tucks donated by the wife of a chap that
passed away. It's a lovely collection housed in glass cases all round the room that everyone now gets to enjoy which I'm sure he would have
appreciated.

Thought I'd give an update in case it's of use to others
The auction suggestions were helpful & there's some other stuff that might go that way, but suggestions re Ebay kept cropping up & I had
another look at prices & noticed that a few dealers names cropped up regularly
Having now catalogued the collection as per above & taken some pics, I messaged a no. of them & several came back either with offers for the
whole lot (I'd actually removed about half a dozen of the more unusual/possibly more valuable, leaving 60 models in total) or suggestions of
likely value
Long story short, bid a couple of them off against one another & finished up with £380 from a dealer, providing I delivered them, he was about 5
miles off my route when going to our son's near Leeds the following week & the deal was done.
The cars left might easily make £150 or so, less some selling costs & nowhere near as much aggravation, so all in all a good result, I'll be
about £500 better off & happy to know that the models will go somewhere they'll be cherished & give pleasure to others
Where there's a will there's a way!
