Hello,
I am about to start building my transmition
tunnel on the chassis and I would like some
info about the distance between the two
"H" tubes at the front end of tunnel.

I will use a 1600cc pinto engine from a
cortina and the automatic gearbox
that comes with it. Should I use the
dimensions that Ron Champion wrote in the
book or add more clearence space for the
gearbox?

I guess I won't have much space problem
since I will be using just two pedals.
(accelerator and brake pedal) So I shouldn't
have a problem taking some space from
driver and passenger legs.

I have painted the two "H" tubes that I am
asking about.

I would suggest that you have a look at the gearbox, measure it and modify the chassis accordingly if it needs it.

If its the Ford C3 auto box then they are fairly small around the belly but I think the sump pan sticks out at the sides a fair bit. But as said get the old tape measure out.

The Ford C4 Automatic transmission used on the pinto engined Cortinas (earlier cars used the BW35) is very unreliable and dosen't take hard sporting use.
