ouch!! just a lock up or a mech failure?

Andy D - 4/7/12 at 03:16 PM

That's horrendous Paul, is the driver OK?

welderman - 4/7/12 at 03:21 PM

Fook me. Hope the driver was ok

minitici - 4/7/12 at 03:24 PM

Stupid place to put a marshall's post

coozer - 4/7/12 at 03:31 PM

Hope everyone was OK, hardly a head on though... thats what happens when some nugget pulls out to over take when your coming the other way... and yes it did hurt...

Yeah i kept looking for one of the cars in front spinning and having a proper head on..!

Any aftermath pics?

PAUL FISHER - 4/7/12 at 03:54 PM

Yes drivers fine, but just goes to show how big a crash you can have in these types of cars and just walk away

It looks to me like he just braked too late, and locked a back wheel

Thats some great racing throughout the video though. All gets a bit raggid once the green seven gets in front of the yellow pheonix.

Does seem a silly place to put a marshal box. Acres of run off so they bung a building in the middle. They even put tyres in front of it knowing its a risk!!

Still, all is ok. Except the drivers wallet.

woodster - 4/7/12 at 05:51 PM

OUCH !!!! I felt that

Coopz - 4/7/12 at 05:57 PM

glad the drivers ok, that's a big impact!

motorcycle_mayhem - 4/7/12 at 06:33 PM

Well, if I was in the market for a road/track/race build, the MK would be pretty high on my list!

chris mason - 4/7/12 at 07:08 PM

Good to see the drivers ok, looks to me like he locked the rear on the downchange

austin man - 4/7/12 at 07:26 PM

You allways get one, the car looked to be handling pretty well before he made a mistake so I dont think the chasis was the problem really.

Not sure why u needed to bring up an old post

enginearin - 4/7/12 at 07:56 PM

From what i remember, the track comes back across behind the marshalls post so the barriers are not far behind it anyway.

I had a major crash at anglesey too... very similar in fact as we ended up head on into the barriers at a similar speed. Mine was due to brake pedal failure though, but the effect is the same!

We walked away too, though i put that down to the substantial roll cage fitted to the car

These days i will not drive / passenger in a 7 / Fury / Phoenix / etc without a roll cage fitted... I shudder to think what would have happened if it all went wrong in my old Dax with an asymmetric triangular roll bar

AdrianH - 4/7/12 at 08:13 PM

I was watching the yellow cars breaking point in to that corner on the previous lap, in case the driver braked earlier. I did not notice any appreciable change in position so can only assume the backs locked up under heavy braking before the fronts to send the driver off course.

Cars will fix sometimes better then a body, so glad the driver was OK.

Dam sight faster then I would dare go anyway so they all have my admiration.

Adrian

I knew which bend you were on about without watching the video...
It is a ridiculous place for it.
If it was wet grass then you could lose it on the bend before that one and still hit it...

I nearly had an off there three days before my wedding ('08) in the exact same spot. Lost the back end at about 110mph, but it came back in line by itself! I did have my hands on the wheel, but it was luck rather than skill!

Glad the driver is ok!

Rocket_Rabbit - 4/7/12 at 10:04 PM

School is a corner not to be trifled with and when you are approaching at well over 120mph it makes craner curves look sissy

The thing is, the braking zone is uphill so you should NEVER be locking your rear brakes.

Sounds like he just got a bit too ambitious with the down shifting and no slipper clutch.

Twin40 - 5/7/12 at 05:58 AM

Fair play, that was an awesome/scary video. Shame about the car but glad to hear the driver is ok.

PAUL FISHER - 5/7/12 at 09:49 AM

When I saw the car at MK after the crash, Danny said the driver of the car had a an off into the tyres, now Ive watch the video I can not believe how little damage had been done to the chassis, damage was mainly limited to wishbones/ brackets and suspension, rad and oil cooler, bodywork, and the steering wheel bent double, the car is now back on track
