Shell Removal - Newcastle area
neilp1 - 10/1/11 at 10:31 AM

Well I've nearly stripped the sierra and will need to get rid of the shell. Other than cutting it up with the trusted recip saw, does anyone know of someone in or around the Newcastle area that would take it away. As it is on my drive it would need lifting from there.

Go for the cut-up, angry grinder and cold chisel, it's really good therapy

Did it to my son's old mini donor when I used the engine/gearbox and subframe the trashed the rest and took it down the tip in the back of the estate P

Do scrap metal places ask questions about the chassis details if you take them along chopped up? Do you have to dispose of them through a licensed vehicle scrapper?

I phoned some random scrappy out of the yellow pages, explained what needed collecting.

Next morning he came round with his hiab, very gently smashed the hiab through the sunroof, lifted it up onto the flat bed and then proceeded to crush the roof in with the hiab arm, rather than waste time with ratchet straps.

cut up my old rotten mini with a angle grinder and chisel, put the bits in the back of my mums suzuki swift and took it to the council tip they have skips for metal, so it went in there. filled out the V5 saying i broke it up myself, and that was that

get a big grinder though. the 115mm ones are too small, and you spend more time changing cutting disc...

same as me with the lad's mini, just took it to the metal bins down our household recycling centre, no questions asked

Give Pringles in Newburn a call, they collected my sierra shell with no docs and all chassis id removed.

Anything left on the shell Neil?

Have you stripped the wiring off? and, I could do with the door and boot seals.

Steve,

Wiring still in there with the door seals and boot seals. I started stripping the wiring yesterday, but abandonded the idea due to a mass of wires!!

I'll have another go tomorrow if you want it.

My Fiat Coupe got chopped up and sent to the scrap metal man......

I removed all the Identification from the shell, the bits I cut it up into were very small!

Obviously a problem if you are unable to transport the shell or the cut up bits but nowadays scrap metal fetches good money so it's well worth taking it to the scap metal recyclers yourself.

I recently cut up and got rid of a Peugeot 205 in this way and it was well worth the trouble.

scrap cars -

best prices are paid at the metal processors in Blaydon, cannot think of their name.

around £70 to £100 if you remove the wheels.

Dont pay anyone to take it away as they score twice
