Just a few 'show off' pics now that I have fitted all the lights and mesh panels.

Front lights are from a BMW Mini
Headlight view

Rear lights are from an Alfa 156 'Lexus' style and I converted them to the latest Luxeon leds so they consume a fraction of the power cpmpared to normal bulbs. Even the reversing lights are leds.

Twin fillers for side pod mounted tanks hold 25 litres each and are switchable with taps

Blue anodized centre caps & wheel nuts

Side vents are Toyota jobbies which I modified to fit, then put mesh behind them to hide the clutter behind.

and finally an interior view (minus seats) You can't see the 90 blue leds that I have hidden in the cabin area. These act as interior lights from door switches and the whole car glows blue at night when you open the doors.
I also fitted a fairly bling head unit with two component speakers in the footwells and two mini sub woofers directly behind the seats.

but, PLEASE loose the chavmobile rear lights, they ruin the whole thing imo

James

DIY Si - 21/12/06 at 03:24 PM

I'm afraid I thought that too, but didn't wish to say anything. The rest I love, but the rear lights do look a little bit chavvy to my eye. Sorry.

If you read the descriptions it tells you!

BMW Mini fronts and Alfa 156 rears.
Fab looking car!

Must admit I've got a 156 and prefer the coloured lights!

RazMan - 21/12/06 at 05:47 PM

Thanks for all the comments guys
It is especially good to receive praise from some of the scratch builders on here as I know that my efforts don't even come close to what you guys are doing.
It has certainly been a steep learning curve for me - this is my first attempt at designing something of my own, albeit starting with an existing kit and changing it to fit my vision (sometimes a nightmare ) I have vowed NEVER to do this type of project ever again unless I have a double garage to work in! The vast majority of this project was done outside my very small single garage, rolling it in and out as needed, rain or shine. It has taken two years and if my health was a little better (dodgy back) I could have completed it by mid 2006 as originally planned. I am now going for SVA in a few weeks and registration will hopefully get me a 2007 number plate in March.

I notice a few people were not keen on the lights To be honest I really like them and they honestly do look better in the flesh (less chavvy ) I tried the original 156 lights but they just didn't look right imo so I opted for the more bling version to be a little different.

I have just got the upper windows to fit now, although I may have to leave them off until after SVA as they might be too much of a challenge to make them passable.

Once again, thanks for all of your help and comments - this forum rocks!

My compliments to the paint guy as well.

Oh yes, I should really give Full Circle of Marden, Kent a big mention. They did a stunning job at a ridiculously low price compared to my local companys quotes (half the price in fact) I'll be honest and say that there are a few 'less than perfect' areas but I can live with that considering the saving

suparuss - 21/12/06 at 06:27 PM

youve done an excellent job of blending the headlights into the body work, the curves are so perfect they look like they grew there! i think the rear lights work quite well, bit more difficult to choose some thing from a production car that will work rather than taking the easy route and using individual circular things like on the ferrari enzo for example. i mean they use them on buses for gods sakes!

well done!

Russ.

Alan B - 21/12/06 at 06:45 PM

Raz,

Nice job...

I agree about the rear lights..not to my taste either....but hey that doesn't matter in the slightest...it's your car...

The main thing by far that earns kudos in my opinion is that you actually went out and actually DID it.....and that applies to all of you have actually left the computer screen and gone out and got your hands dirty....total respect to all of you....

Thats why the disagreement between kb58 and Dick Bear is upsetting..they both have my respect for actually achieving something...hope they can settle their differences.

If this come across as a dig at armchair engineers...then oops...so be it..

Sorry for the slight hijack, but again...excellent job.

Alan

violentblue - 21/12/06 at 07:44 PM

stulad - 21/12/06 at 09:04 PM

can wait to see it in the flesh well done Raz , bet you will be bored soon
again looks fantastic and the colour is spot on.
may need to have a chat with you soon

DIY Si - 21/12/06 at 09:15 PM

Please don't take what I said in the wrong way, I love the rest of the car, just if I had to pick something it'd be that. Otherwise most excellent work sir!
As for Alan B's comments, I also agree, although I'm half way between an armchair engineer and a "real" one, having been banned by the missus! Much kudos to you sir, just hope the SVA man thinks the same and walks it through!

WanchaiWarrior - 22/12/06 at 01:44 AM

Have been keeping an eye on your progress for a while and its definately turned out very, very, very nice.

Congratulations and well done.

re: the lights, go with your own gut feeling

gottabedone - 20/1/07 at 05:10 PM

Hey Raz you have a nice car there well done. You must be very proud of your achievement, especially when you look at the work that you put in on the front!! The interior is good too, as for the back lights - it's your car so "fill your boots" as they say.

Oh and, Jonno, your avatar makes me chuckle!

regards

Steve

gttman - 29/1/07 at 07:33 PM

Raz nipped round today for a visit in his newly registered Aeon.
And I can confirm that it is even better in the flesh than in the pictures..... and I'm using some of his pictures as a screen saver

Awsome work Raz

PS your hired to finish mine
