New boy doing research

Well I'm new, and found this site which i have been nosing around for a while.
Thought i'd register and see if you could offer any solutions to what i have in mind.

I plan on building a scratch built middy using an Audi V8 and 6 sp box and I have some mr2 hubs and stuff i was fgonna use for the front and rear suspension.
I plan to use wishbones front and rear and as much of the mr2 bits as I can.

My question is how do i relate the geometry and wishbones lengths from the mr2 original suspension to make it work with wishbones?

I intend to make it all myself and desing as i go along.

V8 - Good choice mate!

Oh and welcome!!

Decisions on wishbone lengths and angles are informed by things like ride height, wheel size and offset, tyre size, roll centre location, caster, camber, scrub radius, steering rack size and location.

Some of the above will be preset by your selection of upright, then the rest will be constrained by practicalities of the chassis.

In short there is no simple answer to your guestion. Get some good books on suspension design and do a lot of reading and thinking, and then drawing and modeling and maybe with all the right compromises you will eventually come up with a design that works.

Welcome and you'll will get some excellent advice on here

Thanks for the warm welcome. I actually would like to keep the mr2 dimensions as much as poss ie using the rack, front and rear hubs. Even usoing the track and wheelbase as it's a proven vehicle. This i would hope can help with interchangability and ease of design?

In the rocess of aquiring the bits seats engine and all wheels etc first as that was the first thing i noticed, you buy your wheels first. Good incentive to finish

If you mean the MR2 MK1 that you are using for hubs, then the best place I could advise you to look is Steve Graber.
Steve posts on here regularly and has designed and built a car from scratch. He used the MR2 as his donor.

Also, check out my book, in sig, on how to design and build a mid-engine sports car.

Well I have looked in awe at the Kimini, excellent site, book will be ordered soon. I have been looking into front hubs and seen the many debates about what to use.

My question is this, if I want to use something with ball joints topp and bottom and rear steering arms to keep the mr2 rack, what are my options? I have looked at MX5 stuff which I will use on the rear cos the stud pattern is the same, but no rear steering arm front hubs that I can find?

cheers

Also check out my other, on hold, project here...http://www.desicodesign.com/meerkat/index.html

I too used MR2 bits....maybe of some use...

Welcome,
