For Sale

With the arrival of our first child, no time to tinker and my knowledge/expertise etc. lacking, it’s with a heavy heart that I have decided to put the Formula 27 up for sale.

It’s a 1996 Formula 27 chassis with a 1600 Cross flow engine and ford escort running gear (1980’s Ford Escort 1.6 L to be precise). Type 9 - 5 speed gearbox. The engine has had mild fast road tuning/rebuild with evidence of Kent BCF2 cams, head work, porting polishing etc. with a new Bike carb set up fitted (YZF600 Thundercat carbs cleaned and fitted with new 1.5mm jets).

9000 miles.
Fully road legal (SVA’s in 1998, paperwork present) with a valid V5 that is correctly registered on a age related plate. IT has a valid MOT until April 2016. Currently SORN. Insurance fully comp limited mileage is £134.

MORE PICTURES TO COME...but look at my archive for older ones.

Bought in August last year I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it and was such good fun. I have already spent a lot of money and time to maintain, upgrade and generally freshen up the car. I have spent hours indexing the reams of paperwork (build manuls, wiring diagrams, SVA, receipts, tax discs etc. etc.) which came with the car and enclosed it all in a 3 inch thick folder.
Good bits:
• Good overall condition of the car, which I have tried to make it look a little ‘meaner’ than it’s original look.
• Many new parts fitted including: Filterking fuel regulator, Accuspark distributor, Bike carb conversion kit (DanST Engineering), Alloy radiator, red silicone hoses, fuel hoses, Enersys race battery, double bubble aeroscreen, race alloy wing mirrors, steering rack was stripped down and rebuilt (with new gaiters, grease, poly bushes and track rod ends).
• Refurbished Robin Hood Array alloy wheels spray painted black with good tyres all round (205/50/15 rear and 195/45/15 front).
• Engine oil, filter, spark plugs, coolant, brake fluid all changed recently.
• The driver’s seat is on a slider, passenger seat static. I’m 5ft 11in and about 14 stone – snug fit but no issues.

Bad bits:
• The bike conversion needs setting up and as such the engine is not running. I know there is a spark on all 4 plugs and there is fuel, but have just run out of time to get to bottom of it not firing. Just before the conversion the engine ran beautifully with all the tappets setup spot on.
• The throttle linkage needs to be converted to fit the bike carbs (conversion kit is £30 – DanST Engineering).
• The Speedo needs replacing, my intention was to fit a electronic one with the electronic convertor for the gearbox (all in about £100ish).
• The bonnet needs modification to allow the new bike carbs.
• Other than age related marks, scratches and wear marks on the upholstery, the frame could do with a strip and paint. I did start with the front of the car when doing the steering rack.

**YOU WILL NEED A TRAILER TO COLLECT IT**
It’s a genuine car that needs someone with the knowledge to get it going and fix the few bits outstanding and they will have a fantastically fun car. I am looking for £3000 OVNO. Collection from Upper Caldecote, Bedfordshire – 07967977987, thanks Rob.
