Thank you DVLA!

Didn't ever recall receiving my V5 for the MX5 and didn't receive a tax reminder either. Really efficient staff and they're mailing me out a new V5 free of charge - saving a dreaded £25. Result!

She also confirmed that there is a 14 day period of grace when getting tax - not one I was aware of?!

Really pleased - Lovely polite staff and good service too. I await my new free V5 with anticipation!

Did you by any chance get through to the DVLA in another country by mistake?

Good news Mr P...

Lol... I remember sending off for change of ownership on a new car I'd bought. Didn't think any more of it.

A year later and it's tax time and I couldn't lay my hands on the V5... it then dawned on me that DVLA had never returned it to me. A quick check revealed it was still in the previous owners name!

Yeah the lass at the post office told me about the 14 day grace too - but she said the car has to be off the road or else you can get nicked for not displaying the licence!!!

how about this then,

sent 2 log book off to the DVLA in the same envelope, change one engine and colour from each motor bike with the other,

then i get a letter through the post saying that the one of the vehicle requires proof of new engine ( reciept ) and proof of garage workmanship.

anyway i call the person and found out that she got assigned one log and the other has gone to another person !!!

Couldn't tax my car as they spelt my name wrong, so filled the back in, no problems so far, then the lady asked me for some money, as it's a disabled car we get it free, but they had sent the log book back as a PLG so now have to travel miles, again, and wait god knows how long in a queue at the DVLA office to get it changed...........again.

Beaten to it. The 14 days grace means yo have 14 days to declare it sorn or tax it, you can't however use it without tax with in those 14 days.
