I wanted the manifold inlets to be angled the same as the head inlets... there were clearance issue with shorter runners (the cam-activated fuel pump mountings got in the way), so had to stack 'em higher.

nick205 - 16/2/10 at 01:26 PM

Looks a picture

(It'll never work mind )

Irony - 16/2/10 at 01:30 PM

Glad you got those parts mate, engine looks awesome. Whats is going in? A Sherman Tank?

mookaloid - 16/2/10 at 01:30 PM

Put it in the Quantum

Dunno yet... started it all a couple of years ago with the intention of it going into an old Ultima Spyder chassis I have - that's fallen by the wayside, so I have an engine, but no intended use! May appear in the 'For Sale' section at some point (assuming l0rd doesn't take it for now't)

You actually had to give me £45 quid and deliver it as well.

Being serious, do not sell it ever. Look at it. It is a beauty.

Just stick a glass over the tbs and you have a well designed table.

nice, but as ^^^ say, won't work.,

using scrunched up newspaper instead of sparkplugs is a bad idea.

You just set fire to the bits of paper and Audi wizardry does the rest!

02GF74 - 16/2/10 at 01:47 PM

^^ ok, like the old diesel engines where you made a little fire using sticks.

doesn't sound very vorsprung durt teknik to me.

+1 but i didn't dare to ask

franky - 16/2/10 at 03:18 PM

how much then!?

eznfrank - 16/2/10 at 03:39 PM

Scootz, how's about we all submit a guess as to how much it set you back and the person with the closest answer wins it??

cd.thomson - 16/2/10 at 03:52 PM

I say this as a (jealous) friend Scootz, but if you can fork out that much for someone to put an engine together for you (that you don't even think you can use...), maybe you should consider shelling out to have someone complete your ultima?

He's loved working on it - he's almost as excited as I am about it! He's taken loads of snaps and will put it on their website once it's been finished.

Price... ??? I couldn't say what the bill was for Engine Services work as that's between them and me, but I've kept a rough running total of what the whole engine-project (inclusive of all services, parts / donor engine) has cost so far...
....
.....
......
.......
........
.........
..........
...........
............
............. let's put it this way - if I sold it for any less than £7.5k, then I'll have lost money (what, who me?)! But who cares! I've really enjoyed doing it and learnt a lot in the process!

Anyhow, we'll see how it goes... when I'm not around the engine I think of selling it as I'm not fit to build a car to take it and it's a shame for it not to be used, but whenever I see it it gets my petrolhead-juices flowing! I'm pretty sure that it won't fit in the Quantum, but I'll lower it down just to be sure once I've got it back in the garage. If it fits, then it stays!

If not then I might even open it up to P/X's... hot Duratec engine, Quaife sequential box, car, bike, spinal cord transplant, etc, etc.

When I know, so will LCB!]

I'd have to explain that this all started a long time ago and gradually it got to a stage where the engine HAD to be finished in the hope of me ever making a reasonable return from it if I didn't use it. Had I abandoned it when I realised the Ultima project was no longer tenable, then it would have been pretty much worthless and I've have lost a LOT!

Also, the Ultima would cost a huge amount of money to finish... money I don't have at present and don't foresee having. I suppose I'll get round to selling the Ultima chassis and bodywork at some point.

7.5k?!
wish i had the money to do stuff like that

cd.thomson - 16/2/10 at 04:07 PM

Sorry Scootz! I deleted my post with the valuation in it so as to not spoil the game

I hope you can use it somehow, it'd be a shame to have to pass it on!

ETA - lol this has all got so confused now!!

That's over two years mind and it's the only vice I have... I don't drink, smoke and am pretty much confined to barracks - it doesn't cost much to 'run' Scootz!

Works out at less than a tenner a day, or less than £70 a week... I know I would blow that on a Friday night out easily!

your just trying to confuse me now

I think I have a fair idea what he bill would be like - I've got one of my own somewhere.... so 2x Clyinders +4x Valves =

I think Alec liked my crank pulley - as for the rest of the engine - he just thinks I'm mad

btw - you could have had 2 and a bit of my pinto's for that money

did he ever show you that audi V6 he was doing a while back ? (twin turbo I think ?)

[Edited on 16/2/10 by mcerd1]

omega 24 v6 - 16/2/10 at 04:47 PM

looks great but too high for a seven possibly.

Has Alec dynoed it?? what did it make ??

Also it must be in your shed now or Alec has had the paint brush out and a spring clean LOL

Next time you see him tell him Gary from fraserburgh and the hotrods was asking after him (and Grandad hows he doing?)

Never saw it Robert... I meant to ask to see your engine whilst i was there but forgot - will check it out next time I'm in.

not unless you've got really good eyesight - I've had it back for more than a year

assembled it myself to save 10 hours of labour - just need to check the piston/ valve clearance - then it'll be done
(just incase - I trust Alec, but its never been fully built + timmed yet so I don't want to find out the hard way...)

Not been dyno'd yet Gary as the machine at the shop doesn't have the capability. Alec suggested that Wallace Performance up in my old stomping ground of Aberdeen may be my best bet.

Still at the shop... Alec cleaned the room to take photo's of my engine for their website

As for Grandad... he's in good form - he's responsible for my block looking nice and shiny!

I'll pas on your regards when I'm next in.

don't worry I'll let you see it once I've got things sorted out a bit in the garage

other things seem to keep getting in the way - the central heatings just gone fubar (10min ago) I wonder what'll be next.....

oh, incase you forgoten you can't use that V8 cause you said I could have it for nowt

T66 - 17/2/10 at 06:19 AM

MMMMmmmmm

I may have changed my thoughts on the Blackbird engine !

The Audi looks great, whatever you fit that in will need a bonnet guard to prevent animals & small children being sucked in.

Nice one

l0rd - 17/2/10 at 12:17 PM

Scootz, If you were to sell all your toys apart the ultima and the engine, Can't you raise the money to finish it off?

Ninehigh - 17/2/10 at 01:21 PM

Actually I think it would pretty darn good in a 7 with those Trumpets of Jericho sticking out of the bonnet!

I've done the sums and it's a non-starter. I actually think I'm quite happy with the Quantum... it has bags of room and I can get (reasonably) comfy in it. Bung a nice engine in it and trick up the brakes and suspension and it might become something really quite good!

mcerd1 - 17/2/10 at 04:25 PM

what state is the ultima in at the moment ?

scootz - 17/2/10 at 04:33 PM

No two parts assembled!

Attackbuilder - 17/2/10 at 07:52 PM

Hi Scootz....

Can u give me a call sometime.....i've got a stocky RS4 engine for my K1, thinking of having a play before it drops in.
Be interested in seeing what you've done.

Regards
