I friend of daughter's took her 08 plate ford s-max 2L to a tyre and brake place - not main stealer, not kwick fit, and they said she needed
front and rear brake disks and pads replacing. How much did they quote? (a quick look at euro parts shows the parts cost of £150 max)

I'm guessing some rediculous price like £1000 otherwise you wouldn't of bothered with the poll
Wait until she needs a front wheel bearing
Can you at least check them for her and see if they actually need replacing?
Unlikely IMHO that front and rear disks and lads ALL need replacing at exactly the same time!
Another thought...they weren't offering a carbon ceramic upgrade were they?

It should be about £350-£400, that seems to be the going rate to have both ends doing. If you go to halfords for about that you get them for life, apparantly when they need doing again it's free but I don't know how it works.
They wanted £1000 :-) think they must have been gold plated. Told her to get the car off them and bring it around for me to have a look

I've just rang the local motor factor,£200 for parts and an afternoons work, job done!
Don't forget to factor in the rear bearings as they rarely come with spurious rear discs. Even so, I work at a Renault main dealer and you would
be looking at less than half of that for genuine parts!

was it for a brembo upgrade?

Sadly, I corrrectly guessed a grand, based on experiences of both my kids taking their cars to "unknown" places- son was advised a complete
brake overhaul was immediately needed (even though it had just come off the rollers with an MOT certificate and had shown no symptoms of anything
needing doing tobrakes at all! ), daughter was told her entire exhaust needed replacing (£500-£600) and if she tried to drive car away she would
die on the way home- it had snapped just ahead of a a new back box that had a couple years warranty left on it and was fixed next day for about
£75!!
I don't now why some people feel the need to rip off young people because they can, what is wrong with doing a fair days work for a fair days
money??
I'm getting old
