That's what I was thinking.

Anyway, how much is he asking for?

daniel mason - 10/10/14 at 06:19 PM

They seem well balanced and ballistic in a straight line.
I regularly sprint with a pair of highly modified 1340cc busa powered riots which were quick.

jlayton - 10/10/14 at 06:26 PM

yeah v5 all there tax and tested.

http://www.xmoorcars.co.uk/Gallery1.htm I believe its the orange 1 on this link. I thinkhe wants about 8k for it

daniel mason - 10/10/14 at 06:30 PM

Looks reasonably nice to me apart from that rear wing!
Have you driven a mid engined car before?
From what I can gather they are quite well balanced as standard so I wouldn't want a rear wing possibly making the front end go light!
Only other things if I was being picky are it's a Q plate. And I'd prefer 13" rims. In all fairness neither would put me off if I was keen and mainly cosmetic!

jlayton - 10/10/14 at 06:33 PM

I have had a fair few mk indys and mnr bec's but not mid engine cars. mainly though
what do you think of the price

daniel mason - 10/10/14 at 06:42 PM

I'm possibly not the best person too ask because if I went to see it, liked it, and wanted it. I'd haggle for a deal and buy it!
May be it's worth £5k to some but if it's worth £8k to you then why not?
I'd get as much detail on spec:
Sump, brakes incl pads, dampers, etc all make a difference to price but if you like the way it drives (which you will) then it seems a decent buy!

Jenko - 10/10/14 at 07:04 PM

Looks very nice from the pic....

They seem to hold thier price quite well anyway, and if the condition and build quality is up to scratch, then 8k would seem to be on the money.

The riot chassis is pretty well thought of. I have a Sylva J15 which uses 'almost' the same chassis, and so far that feels pretty good. My car came in at 500kgs at the IVA with a full tank (with a car engine), a riot with an R1 would probably be less than 450kg. 450kg with 160bhp is going to be effing quick.

Can't make my mind up about the rear spoiler, but would agree with Mr Mason that 13inchwheels would be more suited to the car....thats just knit picking though :-)

P.S. Check out this link for a pic without spoiler :-)

yeh agree with the spoiler situation only really seen the car from a distance. the guy who is selling it has receipts for way over 20k and built it him self. going to have a look sunday and he just said he would accept 7.5k so fingers crossed

daniel mason - 10/10/14 at 07:33 PM

Wave £7k In his face and see what happens

Kdempsie - 10/10/14 at 07:40 PM

That orange car was featured in Complete Kit Car and on one of their Stoneleigh show stands a few years ago, it looked really top notch in terms of build quality. I'd easy say it was worth the 7.5-8k. No connection to me just thought it was a nice car, the spoiler is a bit of a marmite part though!

Yes those Riots are heavily modified, the only standard one I have seen compete was "a bit of a handful"!

daniel mason - 10/10/14 at 07:59 PM

At a couple of venues, one of the drivers was on a par with my radical!

adithorp - 10/10/14 at 09:09 PM

I saw it at Stoneleigh this year. Nice car and looked well put together. I'm not a big fan of spoilers but it looked fine on this. Probably worth £8000 in early summer and a bit less at this time of year.

If I remember correctly it's an ex-BSB motor.

jlayton - 10/10/14 at 09:13 PM

yeah mate ex bsb motor

ashg - 11/10/14 at 08:54 AM

yes we had that car on our stand at stoneleigh. it was very nice and very well put together. i think for a basic spec r1 engined car you would be looking about 6.5k ish. something built to that spec i would say 8k isn't unreasonable.

jeffw - 11/10/14 at 09:07 AM

They tend to understeer because of the weight bias . They also snap very quickly when on the limit. There are several that sprint with a varying degrees of success (and modification). Adam Wilkins on CKC has had a roadgoing CEC version for a long time.

INDY BIRD - 11/10/14 at 09:45 AM

Saw this at stoneleigh also and had a write up in a kit car mag I have somewhere

Nice tidy car, some good upgrades tillet seats not cheap.

Looked a good build and well spec car, I like it,

Paul AS - 11/10/14 at 11:51 AM

I've seen this car a number of times and it is extremely well finished and very highly specced. I would imagine that you couldn't build this for less than £12-13K or even more.

£8k seems an absolute bargain to me, but as always, its what the seller wants and what the buyer is prepared to pay.

Jeff is spot on about the handling. Really benign up to the limit, and then the back lets go - especially in damp/wet conditions!

Been there - done that!!

Fabulous looking well finished car IMHO!!

nickm - 11/10/14 at 06:54 PM

Hi
I am assuming that this is the fella who Jeremy sold the Riot design to, selling this car would fit as he had an ecoboost demo car at Donnington which looked complete and all the little problems like fuel tank location seemed to have been sorted.
When the R1ot first came out i know it was supposed to lap the old Snetterton within .3 sec of a British Touring Car and the R1ot was standard i still have all the articles in my build folder somewhere as i hankered after one for a while and by the time i was ready to build again the J15 was on the scene.
At Donnington i was quite impressed with his new demo riot as all the little dont likes had disappered so i would imagine it has been well built.

Now on ebay.....

Sylva Riot R1

Still looks very nice, great spec, and undoubtedly VERY quick. Must confess, I now quite like the spoiler :-)

jeffw - 15/10/14 at 10:51 AM

That roll-bar looks very low unless you where under 5ft 7in or so.

Dopdog - 15/10/14 at 02:59 PM

I assume the OP did not make an offer of 8k for it then?

Looks like the wing is just mounted to the rear bodywork?

Riot Squad - 15/10/14 at 05:32 PM

We displayed this car on our stand at Stoneliegh 2013.
JP helped Pete (the owner) with the initial build and then Pete went on to spend quite a lot of time and money on developing his Riot. It's certainly worth the asking price in my opinion (I guess I will be slightly bias tho). It's very well made with some nicely finished extras like the tonneau cover. The engine was built by a BSB specialist with plenty of attention to the drive train.

Just a note on the handling, Riot's tend not to understeer at all but will of course oversteer quickly when pushed as with many mid engine cars. With a quick rack and a good set up it's very controllable on the limits and is quite Kart like.
At speed (60mph+) there was increasing lift from the air being trapped under the front (now reduced with the new bonnet and extended floor) and also some lift from the rounded rear boot lid. The latter easily resolved with a lip spoiler or gurney.

Thanks for the kind words about the new Riot Classic too.
