So I've been offered a 1.6 16v zetec E, for well, free.
I coulda got one last week too, but I passed up on the offer for some silly reason. It's not going to be for a while (in my mums car until she
gets rid of it)
But, obviously I need to change the gearbox for a RWD one. I know I have the choice of a type 9 or MT75, but which is the better to get?
Also what clutch components will I have to change etc.
Sorry for being a little slow, my engineering skills are okay, but my limited mechanical abilities are annoying me a little here.
You could use either on a zetec E.
your aswell sticking to a T9. Its the more done route.
use the 1.6 flywheel.
You want a clutch plate and cover from a mk1 1.8 mondeo make sure it has the 220mm 1" 23 spline clutch plate.
You then want a Qhcct133 release bearing.
Lucas lrs 707 starter motor from a 2.0dohc or 1.8 cvh sierra and they will stick together.
the 1.6 is only 90bhp as standard unless your young or need the small engine for some reason you would be better with a 1.8 or 2l

Zetec E is a regular Zetec i.e. a Zeta (Zetec SE is a Sigma and is a lot more expensive to convert to RWD).
Either Type 9 or MT75 will be fine. Type 9 is smaller and has a removable bell-housing for if you change your mind later. MT75 is bigger (and may
require chassis changes) and has a cast on bell-housing which potentially restricts choice later on.
I'm 19 and only passing my test this year.. So yeah, its good for insurance too. Its not really going to be that slow for me either.
How much am I looking for a t9 box (and all added clutch etc).?

a T9 will start at about 50+ and they often go for over £100
You can often pick up a new clutch on ebay for less than £20 and the bearing, same again.
Mt75 is a cheaper box. a guy on here was giving one away. R1_pete but was taking it to the tip today. There is a guy near me got another I paid £30
for the last one.
Thought I'd give it a week on eBay 1st, but if it aint gone by next Sunday, its tip fodder, if you want it and can collect it, its yours
free.....

engine size does not make much difference with kit car insurance. Pass on the engine and get a 2.0
dont forget the spigot bearing in the end the crank.

Phone the insurance companies. Most wont insure on a 2 litre until you are 21.

its easy to tell though - the 'SE' is all alloy and the 'E' has a cast iron block (but with alot of alloy round about it)
also the inlet and exhaust are on different sides

yep thats a good old silver top.
As long as its had regular oil changes with 5w30 it will be fine.

Settled for a mt75 because er, it was free.

don't want to put you off your choice and for a road car there's nothing wrong with an mt75 but..... if at a later date you wanted to upgrade to quaife,bgh etc you would need a new prop and also reposition the gearbox where if you had a type 9 to start with it would be a simple swap,even the quaife sequential boxes are modeled on the type 9 even though they don't look like one
You will need a 20mm spacer on the Mt75 release bearing.

If someone can get some dimensions and stick them up I would be very interested!
20mm deep and the same size as the bearing.
That easy.
One guy on here did turn a locating groove into one.
Glue it on with best slow drying epoxy you can get.
