What's your MPG??
GavR - 12/5/10 at 01:28 PM

What kind if MPG figures do you guys get from your kit car?
I'm running a ford 2.0l zetec blacktop on R6 TBs and I recon I'm getting about 15-20Mpg driving steady!

Anyone got a similar set up to me? If so what's your appox MPG?

Gavla

Richard Quinn - 12/5/10 at 01:30 PM

Life's too short to check or worry!

flak monkey - 12/5/10 at 01:34 PM

On the pinto on GSXR600 TBs and megasquirt i used to get around 30mpg on a run and 25 on a spirited drive.

Duratec returns around the same even with the charger strapped on. Will be interesting too see what it is once its set up properly though.

David

GavR - 12/5/10 at 01:35 PM

Lol I like your view on life but unfortunatly my bank account is too short :p

GavR - 12/5/10 at 01:38 PM

Thanks David, I really need to upload my megasquirt setup because I'm sure it's using to much fuel. I'm sure someone will spot something wrong with my data file

StrikerChris - 12/5/10 at 01:40 PM

92 mile to 27 litres(if someone can work that out) last time we ran out!have to start lookin for a garage every 90miles instead of 100 now!

tomgregory2000 - 12/5/10 at 01:41 PM

You need some carbs mate!

I have the same engine on ZX6R carbs and get just under 40 at motorway speeds and 15 ish on a track day!

b16mts - 12/5/10 at 01:45 PM

Sorry,think i've just told you,and mine's standard!

flak monkey - 12/5/10 at 01:53 PM

Do you have a WB Lamda fitted?

If so it will tell you most of what you need to know.

You want to aim at 14.7 cruising and light acceleration. And 12.5AFR WOT. I assume you have mapped using alpha_n and not speed_density.

Upload your msq and I will have a look.

David

coozer - 12/5/10 at 02:01 PM

I chased a Focus RS on the way back from Stoneleigh, used an indicated 1/2 tank over 20 miles

I have a 40L tank btw...

GavR - 12/5/10 at 02:08 PM

Cheers david, I'll upload something tonight hopefully. Look out for a new topic on here called megasquirt fueling problems

Humbug - 12/5/10 at 02:12 PM

Completely different engine: 1.4 K series on standard inlet and ECU: 37mpg over all types of driving

Madinventions - 12/5/10 at 02:21 PM

I've got a 1.7VCT Zetec SE from a Puma in a 520Kg Mojo, and I get about 35-40mpg when cruising (70mph is about 3000rpm in 5th). I'll be going round Snetterton in it next week so I'll let you know what I get then!

Doofus - 12/5/10 at 02:21 PM

42 mpg on a round trip to Antwerp.
2.0 Duratec with GSXR TBs.
I didn't include the track day round Zolder though, that might have reduced it a bit

Paul.

BenB - 12/5/10 at 02:38 PM

Low to mid 20s when cruising on the motorway but that is a 5.5k rpm.....

franky - 12/5/10 at 02:50 PM

A standard m3 does 28ish so should get 35-45 pulling less than half the weight.

GavR - 12/5/10 at 02:57 PM

Cheers ed, got a 40mile drive from Chesterfield to do 2night so I'll get a accurate Reading 2night. I'd b happy with 20 lol

rallyingden - 12/5/10 at 03:19 PM

I have gone through two tanks full of fuel ................................... and I've not been off the drive yet !!

mookaloid - 12/5/10 at 03:39 PM

I used to get about 3-4 mpg on a hill climb day

As for myself, since on the road, average of 25mpg and an 11.8 gallon tank

adithorp - 12/5/10 at 04:10 PM

I get just under 30mpg on motorway 20-25mpg on a blat and 15-20mpg on track.
Injected R1 by the way.

adrian

AdrianH - 12/5/10 at 04:51 PM

Round trip Stonleigh and back 280 ish miles I got 36 mpg.

Mostly motorway 2 in car and camping gear on back 1.8 CVH and carb.

Adrian

Aerodynamics are appalling on a 7, takes a lot of power just to push it along at 70mph.

deltron63 - 12/5/10 at 05:45 PM

1.8 zetec, bike carbs. about the same as you

hobbsy - 12/5/10 at 05:49 PM

12.5 AFR at WOT is a bit rich unless you're running forced induction and looking to cool things down with extra fuel.

Around 13.2 to 13.4 is where I thought max power was at?

Fastest burning mixture is at 12.5 and is also where max power is

Forced induction often run as low as 11 but thats extreme.

David

clairetoo - 12/5/10 at 06:14 PM

Cruising up from Detling show the other week I got near 35mpg at around 70-75 , but hooning brings that down to under 20
Thats a 2.5 V6 in a fairly heavy Fury .
The crossflow I used to run would do high 40's at motorway speeds - a full house , 165bhp screamer on Omex and TB's

Davey D - 12/5/10 at 06:32 PM

It was a round trip of 250 miles to and from Stoneleigh. I managed to get that out of 1 tank of fuel in my R1 5vy powered VortX - 30mpg i was very pleased with that. We was 2 up in the car too, so more weight

Friend of mine used to run a Venturi LM600.

At Knockhill, it used 1 litre of fuel per lap of the track.

ditchlewis - 12/5/10 at 07:21 PM

2.1 pinto with twin 45's i get 23mpg on the motorway and about 8mpg if i am toeing it.

you cant put a price on fun.

roadrunner - 12/5/10 at 08:08 PM

Zx9r 345 mile round trip to Stoneleigh cost me £75, i get that to about 25mpg.

your doing well then - I only got ~32mpg on a 640 mile round trip with a 1.8 blacktop zetec....

...and that was in the tin-top

hobbsy - 12/5/10 at 08:31 PM

11:1 sound like you're getting close to washing the bores. Or maybe that's when you're hitting single figures

I'm sure they set up my 200SX (S14a ~370bhp) up at around low 13's

The reason is the wife won't let me thrash it when she's in, so most of time 65 to 70 mph.

Adrian

single figures is bore washing territory. However low 13's is a bit risky on a turbo lump, 12.8 is as high as I'd ever like to see on my XR2 turbo - based on advice from various tuners.

our 2.0 pinto on 40's did low 30mpg's on last years le mans trip.

The 2.3 duratec on ZX9R carbs did 37mpg going to the rolling road and back (about 120 mile round trip, cruising 50-80mph and some booting it).

Irony - 13/5/10 at 12:46 PM

Quite a informative thread. I noticed JollyGreenGiants post with a MPG of 25. Everyone always says that Rover V8 are big, slow, heavy and terrible on fuel. At not much heavier than a Pinto, pushing 200 BHP coupled with 25mpg it seems like a good option!

Makes me happy considering a V8's going in mine!
