Hey all,
got a lil problem, click the ignition to the 2nd turn where the fuel pump usally kicks in but no noise what so ever.
The car won't start, all usual instrument lights are normal and the starter motor is working but no firing
do fuel pumps just go? Or do they have signs of breaking?
Can I check the pump some how to save me forking out for a new one if I don't need it?
any info would be grateful
Cheers Gav
Check the appropriate fuse first (mine has it's own). If still no joy maybe try direct connection to battery terminal i.e. bypass the loom with some (presumably long) wires
I'd also suggest running a wire direct (via a fuse) to the fuel pump just to check the wiring. Make sure you fuse the test wire otherwise if the fuel pump is completely knackered it might kill your battery.....
I guess this is fairly early in the diagnostics but these pumps are normally pretty reliable....
You can take off the back and clean the contacts. The mode of operation (pulsation) involves the terminals sparking a bit (I agree, a bit scary in a
fuel pump), but that can result in some build of of deposits.
I guess its electrical supply problems.

Check all fuses and then as suggested a fused wire directly from the battery with a good earth would be my first choice, have you an inertia switch
that could have tripped?
