MX5 wheel sizes

The wheels on my track MX5 based Haynes look like original mx5 ones at 14inch.

Is it possible to fit 13in rims over the calipers does anyone know. I ask because I have an abundant supply of sticky ex-race tyres but they fit 13 weller wheels.

It depends on what the donor car was. If it was a mk2.5 then no. Pro race 1.2 will fit over a standard 1.8 mk2 256mm disk.
The Mk 2.5 has 272mm disks and they’re only foot for 15” wheels.

I believe the donor was a 1998 NB engined 1.6

I guess I'm lucky, I'm having to go the other way. For my replica I need 16" steel wheels which I bought from Oponeo and by using higher profile tyres (designed for vans) I get an increase in speed of about 15% which I think the drivetrain will cope with as my replica will be much lighter than the MX5. To find wheels with the 4/100 PCD I had to use 56.6 to 54.1 mm spigot rings.

I your case, with smaller wheels and presumably the tyres will be lower profile, what happens to the torque/speed relationship? You are probably way ahead of me on this - and why not just try a wheel on the hub to check it?

some years ago I tried fitting 13 inch 4x100 wheels to my 92 mx5 but they didn't fit over the brakes at least not without considerable wheel spacers, given that decent 13in tyres are hard to come by now and expensive I would be going to 15inch as that currently gives the best range of trackday tyres at the best prices.
