It wasn't so much the sound as it was the "everything".
However, the overriding factor was the "ragging it" bit to be honest.
It's the same reason I was happy on my Honda CBR600RR, rather than the R1 that was offered to me at the time.
That's the reason I was thinking cheap and light Clio 182 or 172...
It's the most modern raggable car I could think of.
Don't really want to go down the realms of the older VTEC's etc.
Hmmm???

I would definitely have one, but my wife would not go in it.
In her opinion they are loud and chav-tastic, bloody women...
And as I said above, I would want it to be ok on fuel if I wasn't booting it - that's one of the reason's why my first thought was
Golf GTI/Leon Cupra as they are turbo cars, so can be driven off (Positive) boost and therefore not as bad on fuel. And a Scooby is not like that.
Plus, you just cannot drive em slowly at all - Well I can't that's for sure! Ask McLannahan on here!
I know this is way out of my budget, (but skint is as skint does...) but I like this car on ebay as it is in my home town!
ps, I know the photo's are a bit "look at meeee"...
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace
What do people think of it?
Do you reckon it'll go for less than £2k???

I did read it - if you read my posts above, my wife will not let us have a Subaru.
I showed her that one and she didn't even answer, just looked at me blankly.
To be fair, it made me want to buy it just to pee her off
Naah, I still think the Clio is top of the pile - it's just whether I could get a 182 for that money, or whether I could get a 172 with all the
extras like air con etc...

I had a clio 172
And it is a good driver car. And can return 40+ mpg
But it is french, and does suffer from the rattles e.t.c.
I got fed up with doing a 150 mile commute in mine, and swapped back to a wrx.

That's just it - I'll be going from a bunch of VAG cars to a french car, and I'm cure that I too will be bothered by the poorer
build quality.
Having said that, I only have a <10 mile commute and it is twisty country lanes, and I still have an old Audi A4 Avant 1.9tdi for all the family
stuff, longer trips out and trips camping etc. It has a tow bar too
Hmmm, just need to sell all my stuff now to raise some money!
Golf Clubs, Snap On tool boxes, and an MX5 up for sale in next couple days!!!!!!!!!!

Had a 172, went pretty well and handled well too but it was the most unreliable car I’ve ever owned and it was a pain to work on with the cramped
engine bay.
Swapped it for a scoob, really fast in a straight line but it felt heavy in the corners – not as nimble as a good hot hatch and a bit unpredicatable
(will it understeer this time or oversteer?). Missis runs round in it now.
Best hatch I’ve owned was a 306 rallye, engine didn’t feel that torquey but when it was wound up it shifted (faster than the 172 imo) and the handling
was really sweet.

It sounds like you want something Italian. No idea what's out there, but the engines are great. Useless post, I know.

You really need to drive one for a while. I was after a 172/182 before I bought my Civic Type R, but they really are quite shoddy in terms of build
quality, and the killer for me was the horrible driving position. On the plus side they do offer very good economy for the performance they give.

I don't think the people I'd intend to buy one from on ebay would lend me their's for a while before I bought it though, so I
don't think that's gonna happen in a hurry, I'm afraid...
I would happily have a Civic Type R, but don't think I'll get one for < £1500...

I would not touch a 172/182, because its French! I have owned an early 172, it was nippy, but unreliable. Electrics played up, seat seams splitting,
interior head lining falling out, that was a brand new car! and all that was before 1000 miles! After it blew second gear to bits after 7000 mile it
got traded! Maybe it was a Friday afternoon car?
I have also owned two scoobies and love them to bits, but fuel is a killer, even off boost they are real drinkers.
I love VAG cars, and either a Golf GTI 1.8T ot a Leon 1.8T with a remap is good fun and reasonably good on fuel (30mpg) off boost.

1. 4 seats - CHECK
2. Not shocking on fuel (when not driving like a lunatic) - with a Fireblade engine - CHECK
3. £1000-1500 as above, as I won't have a budget for a new car for ages... - surely there can't be a huge market -CHECK
With a 'Blade engine it's got the noise, will turn heads (perhaps not for the same reason as a Ferrari but).....why has no one sugested it
sooner!?
Sorry Steve

172/182s that have been looked after are brilliant, but most aren't and so you need to budget to have them tidied up. Certain jobs are
specialists only, and even then some do jobs wrong. Seen so many with cam timing out as they people dong use the right tools.

Steve, try and find a decent 309GTi....if you can...I had one and i swear it was one of the best handling cars I have driven....could barrel into
corners at alarming speeds and still come out the other side alive...much more predictable than a 205....it was certainly more capable than my
'extraordinary' driving skills....felt really quick too, because of the lightweight sh*te French build quality of the
bodyshell....hailstones give them dents.....don't think they rust though, although I could be wrong there....
I would have another one in a minute if I could find a decent one....
Not bad on juice too, IIRC...
Rich.

In fact, what put me on to VAG cars!
Anyway, what do you fellas and fella-ess' think of a Ford Focus ST170???

Come on Pants....It wasn't that good!
Remember me "customising it" the day after I bought it? One dead Sierra, one dead wall....
Awful awful car. I remember us wetting ourselves as we drove off leaving it at the new "lucky" owner's house. Saltney I think?
ST170....I like!
For a special fee I could also make this much sportier. It'd be narrower, lower and shorter and probably weigh less too. I'll get you
booked in....
