Laptop Power

I have an old toshiba satellite that I use for tuning megasquirt. The battery is pretty fubared and I wondered the following

Given that the output of the adapter/charger/mains cable is 15 volts and 3 amps do the collective brains on here think that it would work at say 14 voltsdc i.e when the car is being charged??

I know I could fit up an invertor but I could do it this way much cheaper and with less cables flailing about using bit and bobs I have lying around at work.

So lets discuss

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
