car transporting in Scotland

thinking about the possibility of getting a beavertail van and offering a bit of car transporting. i saw someone last week was thinking about moving a car from norfolk to edinburgh

is this a common requirement?

either to ssotland, out of scotland or around scotland?

I'm not working at the minute, looking to get into one or two other self employed things, but to start with no one of them is going to bring in much money quickly.

i've never been self employed before, and i don't know if this is going to be a decent earner or not...

and if not cars, what else could i transport for people on a flat bed van?

ideas and suggestions please

that would take a s*** load of drugs

hmm, furniture, yeah, hadn't thought about that. could even do the ikea run.

is there likely to be a whole lot of work in it though i wonder?

Hi, In the course of owning about 20 kit cars - mostly Jagos we have used a wide variety of transport agents to bring them in and quite often take them away again.
We have had cars brought upfrom Luton and Lincoln and sent them as far as Dorset
Some transport guys have given up as they found it didn't pay, others gave a good price (but moderate service) on the back of regular contract work moving vintage cars about. Other small firms running 2 or 3 transporters/ trailers seemed to be very busy using e bay as a way of always operating with a return load. There are websites where peopl e advertise back loads needing transpor t which includes cars
By the nature of the kit car came buyers of newly sorted vehicles either arrange tax and insurance to drive off into the sunset or beg/ borrow /scrounge a trailer from a mate.
I realise this isn't too encouraging but remember we are working at the cheaper end of the game - I have no idea about the number of Cobras and Caterhams and Astons that get ferried about. As a starter it would be good to hook up with a museum/ dealer / breaker to try and move all their cars to get some bread and butterwork.

cheers mike, thats the kind of thing i'm looking for, rather than people ejust posting saying they need a car moved. you've given a good idea based on experience.

basically, it wouldn't be my only thing i'd be doing. i'm well into club DJing and dance music production and thats where i'd like to make most of my money, so if it just made me say £200 a month on average i'd be happy enough. i also don't know what insurance etc would be like. if its insured as a transporter, i guess what ever i'm carrying is insured too? that may be where it gets expensive. i need to work out at what level it starts to make a loss and become not worthwhile.

as i said, was just an idea i suddenly thought of last week, so haven't given a huge amount of thought to it yet.

i think all the scrap yards here (there's not many) all have their own trucks already.

Well there's £60 waiting if you want to move my car 2 miles. It's even downhill so you could probably do it without using any fuel

That's more than 25% of your monthly target!
