What exhaust recomended for track day use ?

I want to get some track days in early next year and need some advice on what exhaust cans are being used on injected R1 BEC's ?

I know alot of the noise is from the induction system and I'm working on that but currently I have a Scorpion race can and it's a little on the load side !

SVA was passed, only just, with a bodged up standard R1 can with CAT etc...

Cheers,
Kosmo.

I had one of these on my old R1 car:

Linky

6" can off a westfield. Did about 103db static at 75% max revs.

I've got a 5" repackable. At SVA it was just OK. When I removed the cat' though I also extended the can by about a 1/3rd. It was 95db at 9000rpm at Oulton the other week.

I'm also running with a homemade air-box and with the can inside the side pod that probably helps as well.

I need a can for my R1 & spoke to Phil at MK the other day. They do 5" or 6" cans but recommended the 6" - £180 for track use as it's a bit quieter.

Why not go back to the standard R1 can or similar.
We have a standard ZX9 titanium silencer on our Phoenix Fireblade 929 together with a full titanium system and standard airbox. It hasn't been measured yet but sounded awfully quiet on its first outing last week.
I know most people think they could be losing power by using standard stuff but I'd rather not have to worry about noise tests.
Surely a standard exhaust should pass trackday noise limits, particularly if 100db or higher.
Has anyone ( other than adithorp) managed to pass a 98db test using a "straight through" type silencer on a BEC?
I've seen 98db for some trackdays, has anyone seen lower limits than this?
Kosmo, what was the reading when SVA'ed?
Adithorp, was the 93db static or drive by?
Geoff.

Noise level was around 103.5db at SVA, then all of a sudden the tester showed me a 101db reading....!!!

Anyway, exhaust was standard R1 carbon can with CAT, DB killer and additional wadding, not really suitable for running engine for too long.

Just wondering what the RGB guys use for racing ?

The noise level can change with the weather, for instance on a misty damp morning at Oulton park my GSXR1000 race bike went through scrutineering at 96db! the same bike at Cadwell usually shows 99db. This is quiet for a race bike but the bike is a K8 model with twin silencers, Injected R1's from 2003 went with twin underseat silencers and these are pretty quite at scrutineering, so you could run 2 bike race silencers and put db killers in them for quiet days.

SPYDER, I passed a static test with a reading of 94.6db. I was supposed to take it to 8500prm but it peaked at over 9000. The limit at Oulton is 105db static.
