Motor home in the road.

There has been a motorhome just down the road from my house since november, its plugged into a block of flats and I'm certain there are people living in it as a house.

Firstly, is what they're doing Illegal? Its an unnadopted road if that makes a difference to the matter, but it is actually on the road.

Secondly, who should I report this too? Its been bothering me and even if it isn't illegal I'd like it gone. I don't see that theres any way it can be completely above board as the wire is wrapped around a tree and passes over the pavement about 8 feet from the ground.

I would say it is ilegal but as uits an unadopted road the law wont want to know.

The local council or environmental health?

If the electrical installation isnt safe, then the local EHO can have it removed.

if its on a mains hook up, which is perfectly fine, the elcetric bill is being paid, i think its all above board. i don't think there's anything illegal about living in a motor home. if its on an unadopted road, i don't think it even needs to be taxed (as a private road?)

As above. Surely the council tax dept would be interested??

I'd go for the same dept that gypsies are reported to myself

well from the other side of the matter, id leave them to it. They may have fallen on hard times, lost their house and if so, the last thing they need is a miserable git making their life harder without an real reason.

Check with the Local Planning Dept.

I can keep my caravan in my garden, but it must NOT be used for habitation.

You can only flout the planning for 28 days per year on private property (The 28 day rule), otherwise they might need planning permission to use it as accomdation.

They might argue its not permanant (its mobile / vehicle), but the planners know how to deal with it.
If its on an unadopted road, that has public access, then it needs to be taxed mot'd and insured, as its a motor vehicle in a public place. (same rules as you being in tesco's car park etc)

Check with the council planners, and or environmental people, and the police.

The fact its a vehicle could be the users ace card, so they could win, as long as its mot'd, taxed and insured!

Thanks for the quick replies. Had a quick look on auto trader and simillar vehicles seem to be up for about £50K so I don't think its people who've recently been made homeless, Its afairly new Luxury motor home with a sky dish on the front and US plates (In addition to UK plates). I wouldn't mind if they parked in the half empty car park behind the building.

OT/Hijack...

A while ago, I found a website that allowed me to find properties on the sea front/beach etc, and I can't find it now...

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Steve

ps, I did find something, but it was listing only houses out of my price range (by a long way! )

Faark! I'm famous at last - spent the first 18 years of my life in sunny Horden by the (mostly, Black) sea. Didn't realise how tight things must be over there now.

You'd be lucky to buy half a house here for that money, but you could rent a three bedroom semi for 6 years by my very basic calculation, If you were down on your luck you'd surely move into the flat your getting leccy from.

Just a quickie re unadopted roads, they're still public highways and subject to the usual rules, ie tax and MOT on cars etc. it's just the residents who are responsible for the upkeep.
If its a private road, then that's different.
Our road was recently adopted, best thing that could have happened. it had got to a stage where the dustbin men refused (lol) to collect for health and safety reasons.
The week we moved in, I had a car towed for no MOT / tax etc as I thought unadopted meant private....how wrong I was

When I first moved in noone on the road was allowed to have a caravan or any sort of trade vehicle, now half the people on the road have vans, most of them regularly parked badly.

Blimey, I was born two miles down the road in Blackhall!! Grew up in Peterlee and moved away at 21 to South Africa. Now in Sunny Kent via a 10 year sentence in Slough!

I keep going back up North to visit to get re-cultured and visit friends and family. It is a depressed area but only to the people looking in from outside. They are still a friendly people in the main.
