Ford engine number
That's right.
2 letters representing the year of manufacture, then 5 numbers.

Not necessarily, if the engine has been reconditioned at some point, the number may have been removed and a different one stamped on. My fresh block
hasn't got a number at all, but may have the old engine number stamped on when I get round to fitting it.

With a caveat that if the block has been re-stamped by someone other than Ford proving the date of manufacture becomes impossible, which means it will
be tested as a new engine for IVA.
