New tv recommendations wanted
I'm looking to move our current LCD TV into the dining room and get a new TV for the lounge. I'm after either LCD or LED/LCD in either
37" or 40" with full 1080P. Budget, say up to £1k but some change would be nice. I just want a decent picture (not 3D etc) and some
reliability so has anyone got any recommendations please?

If you watch fast stuff (sport etc) and/or enjoy watching movies of an evening in low light, then I'd look at Plasma. I just bought a Panasonic
G20 42" (820 quid from Costco, but more elsewhere). I hate the grey glow you get from the "blacks" on an LCD.
If your room is always very bright though then LCD will be better.

According to 'which' -- pretty much any panasonic or sony model.

also the grey/black contrast issue isn't a problem with an led backlit screen.

They're better but still not perfect. The backlight lights "areas", so if you have e.g. a screen of starts where it needs light in
certain areas, then that whole "region" of screen is backlit.

was in MAKRO on saturday and saw one of the sharp 4 colour ones, and the picture was really good.
though ilove my panasonic plasma, given the budget it'd be pioneer all the way, such deep blacks.
have a go on www.richersounds.com and maybe pixmania for decent prices.
who says you can't drive a kit car when you're 6'5"?

Stay away from LG. We got given a 37 in lcd as a present and the quality is absolutly shite.

Defo plasma, defo pansonic, get the latest one (G20? as mentioned above?) with HD (freview/freesat) built in.
I have the G15 (2009 model) which has freesat built in and it is EXCELLENT.

I bought a Panasonic, not sure of the model, but it was one of the top end ones.
Splashed the extra cash, was worth every penny.

You're aware that LG produce most of the screens for the larger manufacturers, you didn't happen to buy an entry level model did you?

pioneer plasmas are truly stunning. i have a 50" 508xd and its superb.
having said that on your budget i would defo opt for a 42" panasonic, unless you can stretch to a 42" pioneer

I wouldn't mind spending more if they put some decent programmes on tv  It's just the same carp but clearer!

We've got one of the samsung range. 32", not sure on price but its pretty perfect quality for what we use it for.

Stretch your budget all you like, you won't get a Pioneer - they've stopped making them!  (unless you buy second-hand)

i have a lg lcd, with ture motion frequency, and how it is amazing.
i recommend lg and Samsung

It's not even that good on most LCDs - it's usually the entire screen that suddenly dims when the processor decides its a
'dark' scene and wants to boost the black levels. Only the latest high end lcds have 'local dimming' and can dim a smaller
region of the screen, which still isn't as good as a plasma which has a huge contrast ratio for each individual pixel.
Not sure why some people think you can still buy a pioneer?? They've been absorbed by panasonic. Panasonic plasma all the way! Pick up a
42" G20 for a bit over £800 and you're laughing.

Just bought a Panasonic 46" plasma, from the Panasonic shop in Leeds, well impressed, much more natural looking picture than any of the LCD/LED
tv's i looked at.
Bought a package inc TV, home cinema, blu-ray
and stand, and they did me a good deal. Freeview and Freesat are built in.

I asked the same question on here a few months back and got a 50 inch Panasonic Plasma and its just brilliant!
