Cleaning inside diff, dishwasher?
Is there any reason i can't stick my diff in the dishwasher with the back plate removed to clean the inside? Anyone ever done it? I've
got the back plate in there at the moment and it's coming up lovely but will the seals and bearings be ok? Oh and don't tell the
missus.

I did that with a Caterham sump, it had already been cleaned quite well and it stunk the dishwasher out and the wife went mental when she came back
home.
I would excersie caution.

Diff oil plus dishwasher heat = clean diff and stinky house, be warned.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I've tried engine parts in the dishwasher excellent finish but wife no happy.

i've just bought a new dish washer, so i have the old one going on ebay for £20, works fine but dosnt match the kitchen apparently.

I love these types of posts.
They remind me of the early eighties whilst I was living at home with my dad and younger brother. Said younger brother comes staggering through living
room with 350YPVS engine, up the stairs into his bedroom where he proceeded to strip and rebuild it with the help of Mr Stan Stevens ( remember him ?
).
The house stunk of petrol for months :-)

I know about the stink. The backplate has already stunk the kitchen out (blamed it on the dogs). Will it be alright just putting it in without
stripping it down?

Ask her who maintains the appliances and the house in terms of mechanical and electrical maintenance?
Ask her whose responsibility is it to make sure these appliances work?
Then remind her that HER appliances are the two little turney things above the silver bowl in the kitchen, and the one that gets hot whilst making a
hmmmmmmmm noise.
Then remind her how lucky she is to be married to someone in the 21st century, and not the viking era.
Should be fine after that.
Failing that, get rid of the permanent one and get a temp in.

Mine has still got residue from when i had cv joints in it. Be warned.

Like madteg says, swill it out with fuel, will quickly remove the manky oil residue

wife would pull my nuts off ..... through my mouth, pressure washer probably a safer bet !!

Holy moly. Diff oil is amazing stuff. Stinks to high heaven but I kind of like it. But I would be careful, I spilt some on my seriously drafty garage
a few weeks back and my it still stinks in there.
As much as I like diff oil I wouldn't want my food to taste of it....

Dishwasher tablets (and heat) will frigg the seals up .....think about the agony of crush washers, preloadings, the crying, swearing.....
Just wash it out with some white spirit or petrol or Gunk.
If you're hell-bent, get an old attic water tank or a Gorilla tub or similar and soak overnight in water together with one or two (or several)
dishwasher tablets...or caustic soda.

Put it in a bucket with diesel.
Leave it overnight.
Pressure washer with hot water.
Don´t forget to add oil immediately as rust comes very fast on superclean surfaces.
