Apparently not very tunable, but 140bhp ish as standard and reasonable torque from what I remember.

Don't know what the weight is like tho.

same engine as the 2.3 16v in the last of the granadas, would have been fitted with an mt75 in granada, the 2.0 16v example in the late fwd escort rs2000 is probably the best place to look for tunning parts

The engine had a balancer shaft running underneath the crank, making it very tall.

Smart ass!.....I understand the word ,but how does it work?.....I know some engines have a balance crank pulley which takes out vibration from the crankshaft....But i dont know how abalancer shaft works.

Balance shafts are normally only fitted to engines which are naturally unbalanced like V4's which would shake themselves to bits without one.

I think the question on why one would be fitted to a straight 4 was justified - I don't know the answer - sorry

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

A number of very large straight fours have a balance mechanism. The example that leaps to mind is the engine in the Porsche 944 which uses a Lanchester system that has two counter-rotating shafts at twice engine speed. I imagine that the 2.3 engine in the Galaxy uses something similar.

lanchester ay! {i know the car}but never heard of its balance system, but then again i dont know everything, does it rotate within the sump or externally? and would that be the reason why the engine would be tall for a kit car? sorry to strain your keyboards lads

named after Frederick Lanchester who invented it. One of the best automotive engineers of the early 20th century along with Ricardo & Royce.
