would you pay admin charge to buy a car
Just about to get a new car and dealer wants admin charges for me to buy the car. I dont get it, why would i pay someone to do business with them? Am
i being tight? I just do not get it.

me neither - I guess you just have to look at the total amount you pay and compare it with other dealers to see if it is still a good deal.
mmmm perhaps it is some sort of tax dodge for the dealer?

If you are having the car on finance then i would expect it, if you are paying cash then kick up a fuss.

Consider your self lucky.
In Greece you have to pay £180 to DVLA everytime you buy a car.

Was just a little bit surprised at the cheek of it thats all. Never heard it before. I feel like since am buying from a dealer they have a certain %
of profit already. so why would i pay you to make more money from me.

I'd tell him to shove his service charge, what 'service' is he providing exactly, you could remind him times are tough for everyone,
if he doesn't want your business I'm sure someone else will.

Seen similar rip off charges at local "Classic " auctions where the auctioneer gets paid and the buyer asks for some sort of premium as
well. I guess they are more used to selling sheep than cars!

in America you pay state sales tax (bit like vat) even on private sales, they take it off you when you go regester the vehicle or trailer and get your
reg plates (plates don't stay with vehicle like uk)

By the definition of "Administration charge" you'd expect it to be the cost of filling in the forms, finance papers V5 and so on.
I love the way everyone charges somewhere in the region of £20-100 per hour for it, yet the person doing it probably gets £7.

I wouldn't pay an Admin Charge, even if it was on finance. I bought my car on HP and didn't pay admin (Though I did buy it of my Cousin)
and my parents have had a few new cars and have never paid Admin charges. Walk away, he'll soon waive the fees, it's deffinitly a buyers
market.

You will generally pay admin fees at any dealer, it's just that they may not be called that or may be lumped with other costs under another
heading. All you can do is check the total, bottom line price between a couple of dealers. It could be that the one with the "admin
charge" is just being more transparent and could end up being the cheapest.

Every one charges you an Admin fee, you either pay it on the price of the car or the car is cheaper and you are charged the fee, but believe me you
still pay it!

A Delivery Charge is normal + charge for number plates & fitting them.

You still pay them one way or another
Last year i went to test drive the Twingo RS and there was someone who was there to collect their car.
After they signed off the last papers, she was handed a bouquette of flowers, a box of Thorntons chocolates and they also gave her a set of car mats.
Never seen a car dealer before do that.
She was nearly in tears.

I understand they want to make a profit, it's just these hidden charges and little snide ways of making a few more quid. By all means have an

Mind you airlines are no better. Ticket £1
An extra £ if you want to have the ticket.
£2 if you want a dump on the plane (which of course you will on an 8 hour flight)
£5 for a seat
£10 for food
plus taxes, plus fuel, and I wouldn't be surprised if some charged extra for a pilot

Delivery charges are a con aswell, you can get out off paying loads of the fees they add on by simply saying your not buying the car if they're
gonna want them. The OTR price which should be on the price list should include literally everything and if you haggle it's on that price. You
wouldn't normally pay someone extra fees for the privaledge of them selling you something so why do it for a car?
Going back to Original post, what is the Car in Question and who's selling it?

The finance company will no doubt charge an admin fee which I assume covers the cost of paperwork, credit checks etc not the dealer.
