MX5 gasket position for water inlet pipe

Hi all,

Hope you're safe and well.

Could someone let me know which way round the metal gasket goes on the water inlet pipe to engine. 2002 mx5 2.5

There is a flange on this gasket. Does it go towards the top or bottom of the engine and does it face with the tab inside towards the engine, or towards the pipe casting face.
