How to start??

I am wanting to get in to locost racing, However I am struggling sifting through all the information on the web.

Please could you give me some pointers on how best to begin?

I have the haynes roadster manual, wrong chassis but good for guidance.

Will you be at stoneleigh or cadwell over the next couple of weekends for me to have a chat to?

Does anyone have the recent ron champion book for sale?

I'd say get to a few races and speak to the guys already doing the series - there are a few on here anyway. Dont even think about buying a chassis until you have a plan in place and have loads more info. In my experience of looking into going into RGB, the racers are more than willing to give great advice and are very keen on helping get more competitors into their class.

There are plenty of "book's" on Amazon.com

Only kidding, you only need go down to your library, they should have one apparently.

I'd be happy to lend you mine, long term, if you get stuck. But I'd rather not sell it...

Steve

Dubstar, before you do anything else come to a race meet and have a chat to some of the racers. You'll get some great advice and everyone is very friendly.

You'll get lots of excellent advice and be able to watch teh racing as well!! Us locosters are at cadwell on the 10/11 May and some of us will also be there friday testing ( im there fri afternoon as well as sat/sun)

If you can make it come along and say hello. I'm car number 63, one of the very few fully homemade cars ( it may well be the only one!) Missus will probably make you a brew as well - bargain!!

Craig

Mines coffee with loads of milk. I will hopefully see you there.

Will I need the ron champion book?

Or is there a better way of finding all the infomation?

Try the internet first and as per your in place invitation go speak to the guys first. You might find it better to start with a tried and tested chassis.

Have a look here

Parts list

Does anyone know where i can find a parts list?

I've got a mk1 escort that is in a sorry state and I was hoping to use as much of that as I can.

Would the uprights and axle be of any use?

Hi for a starters here is a list of a few web sites that will help you with info on the championship.

1. 750MC home page.
2. locost home page with relavent links.
3. home of the locost racers. and where most are found hanging around. Although you need to register which takes a few days before you can post.
4. The second home of the racers. This is a much better site than the Yahoo one but dose not get used as much as the Yahoo one.
5. A link to the novice drivers pack. For new drivers in the championship. Just click on the link on this page.

But as said above come and see the drivers and cars at Cadwell park over the 10th - 11th May. You will get a much better understanding of HOW WHAT and WHY.

Just seen your last post. Yes you can use the MK.1 escort axle. Front uprights must be the cortina NOT sierra. And the escort steering rack is what is used also.

HTH cheers Matt

How much for the escort?

You could probably sell it and buy a Locost racer for the prices they're going for at the moment.

Maybe see you at Cadwell, I'm number 82.

The escort is not for sale as yet, I am going to use all that I can from it, axle steering rack and what not then I might sell the bare shell, and remaining parts.

What is it you are after?

Hi not really worth hanging onto the escort for the parts. You only need the axle and steering rack.

You can pick a decent axle up for £50 and the rack will need to be a quick rack so it is easier to buy a brand new ( NO exchange required ) from rally desighn for £100. That then leaves your escort in a much better condition to sell as a complete car wich will be worth a lot more.

Cheers Matt

The car is actually my fathers and he was going to rebuild it for hill climbs but has never got round to it!!

Its in a very sorry state and all but the gearbox and axle removed. The inner arches and footwells are rotten, However the rest is ok.

I bought him a quick rack for it about 2 years ago from rally designs, which is going to come in nice and handy!!

Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the required parts?

for example:

Steering rack - mk1 escort
rear axle - mk1 escort
uprights - cortina

If you want to buy a real car I'm selling a mk1 golf, stripped interior buckets and harnesses, full respray in gun metal gray, with a 1.6 engine gas flowed head on twin dell'ortos, coilovers. Its got to go to fund the Locost!!
