110 amps mig welder for chasis

Hi,
Can I use a 110 amp mig welder for welding the locost frame

Yes.

I use a 150 amp mig on setting 2 out of 6. I take it up to 4 to weld the plate, but that's still (roughly) 100 amps.

I am not a competent welder that is why I am asking such questions- where I live it costs a fortune to buy a mig welder so will be needing a lot of assistance

yes, as long as it's a decent welder (so will actually be producing that ind of power you use)
with regards to competence and amperege, I too just work on 4 out of 6 on a 150amp Cebora.
this might be around 100amp, I don't know, it's done by feel, and you're welcome to see the MIG welds I've done so far.

I am stranded in a place called Peshawar, on the Pakistan side near the Afghan border- quite a challenge to survive

Depends on the quality of the welder, use 0.6mm wire and you should be okay.

Cheap welders are generally improved by replacing the earth lead and clamp with something more substantial.

Try on a piece of 2mm steel before you buy

Well Hamza I am most impressed why not do what some on this forum do and post examples of your welding for constructive comment. I hope you are doing a blog of your project as I for one would be fascinated. I wish I could be of more help best of luck.

Hi Hamza,

Ask all the questions you want to, there is a lot of help available on here.

I welded up a go-kart frame from 25mm x 3mm wall thickness steel with a 110A MIG on full power. I then made a welding trollet from 25mm x 1.5mm wall thickness steel (as you would use for a Locost). Much easier and only needed the power on 3 of 4 settings.

As mentioned, sample pics to help us give tips. Loads of welding tutorials online and join Mig Welding Forum as they, like the majority of people on here are also
very helpful.

I'm self taught, loads of practice and with a little help from Youtube, my welding has been complimented by a few MOT testers
