Ok so im looking for some thoguhts on this, the steering colum cowling is inside the exempt radius of the steeering wheel so would i be ok to make a "Gator" to gover it rather than using the standard sierrra plastics?

im thinking it would be smaller more compact and neater. but would it pass iva?

Dont see why not, dont think it matters what its made out of.

The only thing that the tester will consider would be: if you had a massive front-end collision, would the cowling protect you from the hard, sharp and lumpy bits.

I was under the impression that anything behind the steering wheel was exempt.

Doubt the original plastic cover would add much in the way of protection anyway.

I have no cowling and mine passed on Friday, so it would appear this area is exempt, but this is always down to the interpretation of the inspector!
