Update + Wanted

Hi, been busy today, fixed the flashing on the garage roof that disappeared last Saturday and have been cracking on with my homemade cage.

I've used the tubemitre.exe and its excellent, especially for the cross over bar at 31.5 degrees.




I intend to have it bolted to the original roll bar which is welded in place. To do this I need about 2" of ~38mm steel bar to make a couple of inserts for the new bars then a tube welded into the roll bar to take M10 bolts.

Anyone got any 38mm steel bar 2" long please???

I would like to have this all welded up and in place for Stoneliegh if possible.

looks very good

mind to cover the cars bodywork before welding or you'll have metal bits melted into it

That looks really nice............. but watch out for the tossers with there comments on here that do not like double bend roll cages

Your right there, and the ones with good eyes will notice the tubes are ERW. Oh no, no good them...

Its not a race car, the cage is purely something I fancied and is cosmetic, maybe giving me some extra stiffness and protection.

And, the main reason? It will stop the cover dropping down and filling with water at the shows

Have seen a bracket somewhere that welds to both parts of the cage and you then bolt the two together but can't seem to find it at the mo. Will keep looking.

Nope, look how low the seats are, the original bar is like a climbing frame. I tried it last night and can get in and out no problem!

How did you mitre the tubes? Any tricks or just your skill :-)

Use a bit of software called tubemitre, I've stuck a link here Linky tell it the dia's of the tubes and thickness of the wall and the angle then it will print out a template that you can wrap around and the mark it out with a felt tip pen then attack it with your chosen tool.

Easy with this program... you put the size of the tubes and degree where they meet and print if off, wrap it round the tube and get the grinder and files out I used sticky back paper and stuck it on the tube, used erw line down the tube to keep it lined up and square.
