Reading the hand held CB thread got me to thinking, showing my age also, anyone under 45 or so missed it but we where young once us old gits.

Who on here was on channel 19 first time around ? I remember paying £60 for my 1st set, lot of money in late 70's, midland I think it was, DV27 aerial then got brave with a firestick, went under the handle "1/2 shaft" was always convinced buzby was just one step behind, met some great guys (n girls) lay byes, car parks pub meets, "eye ball eye ball"

Lots of memories, different stunts pulled, one I remember near us was a manned level crossing, one of us would pull up at night wait for him to open gate, reverse off give signal and the rest of us would come at speed from opposite direction in our MK1 escorts, minis etc and scare the poo out of him, childish maybe but as above teenagers and CB's = mayhem at the time.

Mine was a binatone route 66 or something like that I then bought an Austarlian spec Sideband Radio I think that was a COBRA Had the firestick and the Shakey big stick on the chimney started off with the 18 ft diapole

Must be a Yorkshire thing as we had them in the early 80's in Wath. The hardest part was coming up with a cool sounding handle!

Ah the memory's.

I spent most of my late teens on top of remote hilltops - hoping to be able to talk to the yanks you could hear late at night.

I did have a very interesting "eyeball" with a young lady (handle- "Frodo" that ended up in a lay by showing her my "Fire stick"!

You don't get that sort of fun with a play station.

Bailed out as soon as they made them legal.

This thread made me smile, lost my cherry to a girl I met via my brothers CB radio. She wasnt too picky either as he had a visit and so did my best mate ......eeek the memory is terrifying.

"Hello out there, this is Pootsy Bear and I'm on the air!" said with a lisp of course, was always a fun way to liven up a long trip.

You'd get the truckers riled up for miles and up and down the hwy they'd be looking for Pootsy Bear.

Of course we'd talk about being in a convertible while the whole time we were in a van.

Long trips never seemed to take all that much time when you were gabbing or listening the whole way.

I still have a CB rig and when I go on cross country trips I still tune in. The truckers over her still use them. The rules & mannerisms have changed, but the info you get on the air has saved my bacon numerous times watching out for cops & weather moving in. Alternative routes are always helpful.
